Kauai with a 4 Year Old: Activity Ideas?

Hello---My husband and I will be visiting Kauai in February 2015 with our 4 year old son. This is our first time to Kauai. Any ideas for day activities that would be fun for a preschooler? We will be staying at the Hyatt. Our son loves animals, waterfalls, and volcanoes. He is pretty sporty--he has been jet-skiing, zip-lining, etc. Kind thanks in advance!

Building sandcastles? Not very sporty, but lots of fun.

If he can swim you could take him to Anini Beach or Lydgate Park to snorkel. Pretty shallow and mellow conditions much of the time, but it will be winter so check the surf reports BEFORE going in the water.

Watch the birds soaring, diving and swooping in the wind currents out at Kilauea lighthouse might be fun, plus it is a decent place for spotting whales too.

An ATV tour might be fun.

Enjoy Kauai!

There is a train at Kilohana Plantation that goes out into the fields and for you parents, after the ride there is a rum tasting factory - the rum cake is really yummy.

As alleged adults, we LOVED the Kilohana Plantation train ride! A lot of animals along the way, too.

Don't forget Salt Pond Beach too.
Nice family setting and another natural shelter from ocean waves for the kids.

Paddle up the Wailua or Hanalei Rivers?

Rent bikes (or bike trailer) in Kapaa and ride up the beach path. It is one of my favorite things to do in Kauai.

We have rented from Coconut Coasters twice.

Float toys... inner tube, raft, etc. for the pool. Sand toys... for the beach.

Four-year olds are so easily entertained, I wouldn't stress about finding paid activities for him. Our kids were happy to play at the beach every day. Come to think of it, so were we parents!

A bucket and shovel. Our daughter spent so much time digging in the sand and hauling buckets of water when she was 4 years old. She was pretty annoyed when we tried to do anything other than sand and water.
