Kauai weather
We leave tomorrow and after looking at the weather forecast, which calls for scattered rain every day that we are there, I'm wondering if that just normal?
|
Yes, that is the typical forecast.
Have a great trip! |
I recall seeing a similar forecast before leaving for Kauai this past August. I wouldn't worry.
|
Having said that, this thread from TripAdvisor may be of interest. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...ai_Hawaii.html. Still, I expect you'll have a great time, regardless of the weather.

The post above on tripadvisor said heavy, heavy rains today on the Island and high winds. Sure hope tomorrow is better!

Several times this trip we just packed up the car with our beach gear and drove from raining Kapaa to Poipu or Salt Pond/Kekaha and got plenty o' sun.
Kauai is almost like SF when it comes to diff "climates". It can be pouring rain on one end and perfrctly sunny on the other end. It's funny to see convertibles pulling over to put the top up due to rain then around the next corner pull over to take it back down. Not that that's ever happened to us. heh heh heh We also found out that The Weather Channel's local "weather on the 8s" is usually 80% wrong! If it is drizzling in Kapaa, drive up the side road to The Islander and sit under the friendly awning of The Sand Bar. Barstool #4 is the best seat in the house. No rain-no rainbows! |
Ummmmm I think I have a picture of the view from that barstool...thanks for telling me where it is!
recommend mom and pop places to eat in Poipu? or Salt Pond? |
Nothing at Salt Pond. Nice area for a picnic tho. Maybe stop at "Grinds" in Eleele and get a sandwich and some "potato mac".
Haven't eaten in Poipu in quite some time. Did like Kiahuna Joe's at the Kiahuna Golf Course. Local friends rec Casa Blanca. The new area by the "traffic roundabout" has several, non-chain restos. Merriman's and Jena Marie Josselyn's place. Bubba's too. They have a Whole Foods type of market there where you can buy stuff to take to Poipu Beach. |
You'll be great...no worries...minor rain today in Kilauea after warning about possible flooding...forecast seems to give worse case warning and then let it down grade instead of getting caught. ...Kal says it right...just head to south side.... Living Foods market in Kukui'ula market place nice breakfast wraps, oven roasted pizza, sandwiches, etc Josselins is tapas for dinner, best of south shore eateries! Merrimans downstairs for pupus, Fish market for wraps and poke...good stuff! Mermaids in Kapaa great ahi cilantro nori wrap... did you mean " Red Salt" in Koa Kea hotel?
|
Mermaids and Java Kai in Kapaa....=P~
Salt Pond: http://www.to-hawaii.com/kauai/beach...dbeachpark.php But heard good stuff about Red Salt from local pals. Special occassion resto for most of them. |
And I hope any new rains don't cause more probs on the Hanalei Slide repairs![-o<
