Kauai Trip Report, Another One

To All,
Quick review of a 4-day visit to Kauai...
- Interisland helo flight RULED! Marty was a great pilot, don't let your completed film rolls fall out of the open door!
- Hike down to Wiamea Falls through the Danger signs...bring hiking boots and take your time and be careful, but swimming in the falls was outstanding.
- Don't go TOO early to see the Napali coast, time it so that the sun hits it mid-to-late afternoon.
- Don't go TOO late to see Wiamea Canyon. 1300 is perfect.
- Zelos on North Shore is way underated...the Club sandwich was to die for. The Shack is also worth the time. What's all the fuss about Bubba's, way OVER-rated.
- Friday Night Seafood Buffet at Princeville didn't have crab legs...FOUL!
- Get a convertible or don't bother going.
- Snorkeling is too easy NOT to do. Snorkeling off Niihau is even better.
- Visit the light house and talk to Bruce the volunteer. GREAT tidbits of info. Spectacular views of Hanalei and coast. Worth the 30 min diversion. Give them more than the $3 per head requested, you'll see why.

Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful spots in the world.

Thanks for your slimm trip report! Can you provide any more details about the cruise to Niihau (e.g. how long and rough was it, what did you see snorkeling, anyone get seasick, how many people onboard etc?) :?

Why anybody would want to go to Kauai is still beyond me. :^o

In fact, I will be doing my continued, extensive research into that phenomena starting TOMORROW!!!
>:O And La Playita BETTER BE GOOD!!!!

Thanks for the "taste", slimmer. ((H))

JohnD/Kal,
I went w/ Holo Holo charter out of Port Allen for the cruise/snorkel tour, $175 a head. 7 hr cruise w/ bkfast and lunch on fast catamaran. Great crew. Snorkeling is weather dependant, cross your fingers. Saw turtles and manta rays off Niihau, and during the cruise we actually saw dolphins and a lone humpack off Napali. Water wasn't too choppy. They took 20 on board, ~45 max load, so it wasn't too bad. Hope this helps.

Alas, it was too rough to go the 18th when we wanted to - HIGH SURF WARNINGS. A couple we dove with said they had done it earlier in the week (same company) and that it was great - no one got sick and the crossing was surprisingly smooth.

ALOHA KAL - give us the details on that research when you return!! Safe, happy travels!!

Mellz,
Will do.
My extra poundage and I will return approx 1-21-04 with, hopefully, a very, very, boring trip report. 8-)

Hey slimm, mahalo for your reply and do you happen to recall about how much time out of the 7 hr cruise you spent snorkeling? :?

slimm Dec 30th, 2003 01:35 PM

JohnD,
They gave us about 45 mins to snorkel off Niihau. Good luck.
