Kauai sunset cruise or luau
We are staying at the Princeville and trying to fit in a night time activity, after golf (noon tee time). Seems like a sunset cruise would be a great option but it is costly to take a north shore version (Captain Sundown..$110 and nothing but some light snacks). Another option is to take one departing from the south shore (HoloHolo). Any thoughts??
Currently, we have reservations at the Coconut Beach Luau, but after searching the postings, I am considering bagging the luau concept all together. Any comparison with the Lahaina Luau? We did that several years ago and loved it, but we don't want to waste the money in Kauai if there are better options. Suggestions?? |
bgabriel, if you have done the Old Lahaina luau and loved it, I would probably go for that sunset cruise. I think luaus are expensive for what they are.......... and you've already been to what is probably the best!

The scenery will be better from the Capt Sundown cruise on the north shore as you will already be at the Napali coast.
If you have already been to the Old Lahaina luau then the Coconut Beach may disappoint. A cheaper alternative is to attend the "show only" part of the Smith's luau, the meal is way overpriced anyway, in my opinion. |
I went to a luau several years ago at the Princeville and loved it. Do they still do that or some other kind of evening poolside event?

The Princeville lu`au is a real treat -- mostly because it's small (100 or so guests), located right on the cliff overlooking Hanalei Bay (awesome sunset views), and the food is outstanding. Free mai tais until they start serving dinner, too!
Can't remember what night they hold the lu`au, but hotel guests get discount pricing. New entertainment since I was there last year...a very well-respected north shore dance troupe. I'd recommend this over the sunset cruise, for sure. |
