Kauai-Sheraton vs. Marriott
My husband and I want to go to Hawaii in February. We don't want to spend unnecessary money but want to have a nice vacation. The Hyatt Regency is over 400 dollars per night. The Marriott and Sheraton are closer to 200 per night.

We are looking for a vacation without child infestation (our last vacation before starting our own infestation). I understand that the Sheraton has a separate kiddie pool. How are the relative beaches, activities.

Thanks

Aloha Kitty,

The Sheraton is located in Poipu right on the ocean. The Marriott is in Lihue located right on Kalapaki Bay.

The beach at the Sheraton is a nice little beach and you can body surf, etc.
In Feb you may be able to still see some whales from the point. They come in pretty close right there sine the water is deep.

Since the Marriott is on a bay, the waves are a bit smaller.

Both are nice hotels.

The Marriott is centrally located on Kauai and is around 30 mins away from Poipu, 30 from Princeville and around 45 to the Westside. 5 mins from the airport in Lihue.

The Marriott has a nicer pool area.

Both have golf courses near them. Poipu Bay and Kiahuna near the Sheraton while the Marriott has it's 2 courses and is near The Grove-Puakea and the Wailua Public Course.

We've seen a lot of kids at both hotels. Ever consider a B&B since they mostly cater to adults? Some good ones all over the island. Gloria's in Poipu leaps to mind.

Nice condos and smaller hotels all over the island, too.
Either way you should enjoy your stay.
Kal

We're staying at a small condo complex right on the ocean called Whalers cove. Their website lists rooms at a high rate but we went through Suite Paradise and got a pretty good price. We were looking for a place with few to no kids and I don't think this place would appeal to families much (fingers crossed). It's not that we don't like kids it's just that we're leaving ours at home and prefer to have a vacation that's as child free as possible. 27 days and counting......

We stayed at the Marriot a few years back and really enjoyed it. The grounds are beautiful. The beach is secluded, although note previous poster that this resort is on the bay, the waves were minimal which may attract families. We didn't notice many kids, I think we were there in May before school got out. Pool services are great (food, drinks, massages, etc.) I we were even able to try out scuba diving in the pool (which is magnificent, by-the-way).

We stayed at the Sheraton Kauai in September 1999 and loved it. We were upgraded to a suite when the room we were assigned was not what we had reserved. I don't recall many children during our stay. The pool, though not that big, was very nice - it had a slide. The beach area was great - sandy and we had some good snorkeling. E-mail me if you would like more info.

Spend the extra$$ (if you can) and go for the Hyatt. There is NO comparing this hotel to anything else on the island(Maybe Princeville). The $400 a night rate is for the top of the line room with full ocean view. Go to partial view and save some $$. You will not be in your room alot, trust me, the grounds are lush, the "lagoon side" of the hotel has a "no children" section. This place IS paradise, no doubt about it. You will not be sorry. Sometimes they run specials- 6th (or fifth)night free, w/ free breakfast buffet (awesome buffet). Try to go the extra mile, you will not be sorry. Happy travels!

I was just checking into the Hyatt for next summer and rates starting at around 395$ just for a garden view. So about 400 a night is the minimum for the Hyatt although there are supposed to be some fifth night free and the like specials announced later this year. I think ocean views are more like 600-700 a night. Would love to go but it is quite an investment for a few days of bliss. I was considering the Sheraton next door...seems like more of a compromise for money/ bliss ;)
