Kauai Sheraton or Kiahuna Plantation?
 

My husband and I are looking at booking a week at either the Sheraton or the Kiahuna Plantation on Kauai. We are going to be in a garden room for either and there is not much difference in price. So I am wondering if anyone has an opinion about either property. The advantage I see with the Kiahuna is having a kitchen to keep breakfast food, etc. whereas the Sheraton seems to have a better pool. We would like to relax on the beach and at the pool for part of our visit, but sightsee the rest of the time. Any advice for 1st time travelers to Kauai would be appreciate.

message: We haven't been to kauai in quite a few years but we are planning to go in May! I have read many comments and opinions expressed on this website and others that say that the gardenview rooms at the Sheraton aren't that great..too small and some worn. A travel agent advised me that it is well worth it at the Sheraton to spend the extra dollars for at least ocean view. I don't think the Kiahuna's pool is very central but the units look very nice and you have more room and kitchen facilities. Read the book "Ultimate Kauai Guidebbok." Of all the travel books I've read this one seems the best. Have a good time! <BR>

Hi, <BR> <BR>I have never stayed at either of these places. However, in doing the research for our trip, I read postings on the Internet and a review in the "Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" that said at the Sheraton it is worth it to get a room with ocean view.

I stayed at the Kiahuna for a week last August. There is no pool, but you had privileges at the Sheraton next door, not the ocean pool, but the garden pool. The beach access for both is great. I took my family of four and would only consider condos because of the kitchens. <BR> <BR>FWIW, the Kiahuna has no air conditioning. It didn't bother us last August, but some comments in the room guest log said differently. If you like pools, consider the Hyatt the grounds and pools were spectacular. <BR> <BR>If you like to horseback ride, utilize CJM stables down the road. The guides and horses were great!
