Kauai Restaurants: What to wear?

We are lovers of St. John USVI and manage to go to some wonderful restaurants (Zozos, Rhumb Lines, etc.) quite casually dressed - Capri slacks, top & sandals for me, nice walking shorts - or khakis & polo for hubby. Other than eating in fancy, pretentious restaurants - as in the Hyatt, are most of the good food restaurnts FANCY?

We are firm believers that fancy dress codes & fancy LOOKING food has NOTHING to do with FINE QUALITY & GREAT TASTING food.

Also, what are some of the better authentic restaurants on Kauai? Mostly interested in fresh, light & healthy.

Thanks Everyone!

I didn't find the restaurants at the Hyatt pretentious. They were expensive, but I liked the food at Tidepools and the breakfasts at Seaside Terrace were very good.

Restaurants in Kaua'i are casual dress, even the snootier places like the Cafe Hanalei, Donderos, etc...It is very similar to St. John in that respect. Maybe even more casual. I've never worn a long pair of pants on Kaua'i.
I like:

Coconuts
Polynesia Cafe
Bar Acuda
Saffron
Tropical Tacos
Hamura's Saimin
Village Snack Shop
Casa di Amici
Mediterrean Gourmet
Brick Oven Pizza
Hukilau Lanai

Thanks!!

I am so happy Kauai is a casual place... after several cruises where we got all dressed up, we have that "been there, done that" attitude and so appreciate the relaxed, comfortable way of dressing!!

You will love the laid back restaurants on Kauai. No dressing up for us. A favorite of ours is Kauai Pasta in Lihue.

I meant Kauai Pasta in Kapaa...although there is one in Lihue.

We were recently on the hawaii cruise which visited several islands. Of all the cruise we have been on this way by far the most relaxed dress code. VERY casual.

I second the Tidepools recommendation (at the Hyatt in Po`ipu). I had my wedding reception dinner there - some of our guests wore slacks, some wore khaki shorts, all wore sandals and I wore a white beaded dress and ALL of us were appropriately dressed. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is undeniably Hawaiian. Enjoy!
