Kauai - Poipu Kai or Kiahuna Plantation??
Hi,
We only have 3 nights on Kauai the end of this month and trying to find the perfect condo for my husband, mother and baby. Can anyone help us decide? We are hoping to be able to walk to a lot with the baby instead of driving everywhere. Any other suggestions welcome. Thank you. |
Hi,
Few months back when i visited kauai i have booked the condo to stay using this website http://www.springvacationrentals.com i had a great vacation. I hope this may be of some sort of help for you. Thanks |
If it were me I would choose Kiahuna because of it's close proximity to a great beach. It also has a nice laid back atmosphere. Poipu Kai is a rather large development that is comprised of several condos and private homes that are nice, but none of the units are on a beach or on the ocean if that is important. Beware that the cheaper units at Kiahuna are quite a way from the beach and closer to the road. The units are indvidually owned and renting them directly from an owner can save you some money. vrbo.com has many Kiahuna units.

Another recommendation for Kiahuna Plantation. The beach is lovely and there are expansive grounds with lots of lawn for the baby to play. Also, you can walk across the street, from the rear of the propety, to a large shopping center that has several restaurants, snack bars and interesting shops.

Thank you for the replies. We are booked at Kiahuna but just want to make sure there is not anything better. Does anyone know if there are any bars or nightlife near Kiahuna? My mom has volunteered to watch the baby one night so I would love to take advantage. I know Kauai is not the best place for nightlife but even somewhere nice to have a mai tai would be great!

My memory is a bit hazy on this, but I believe that in the shopping center across the street from Kiahuna Plantation are several bars, or restaurants with bars, that look like they have entertainment at night.

Chalupa, head east , five minutes drive to the end of Poipu Road, and you'll arrive at the Hyattt. Great setting for a "getaway"--try Stevenson's Bar for a drink, then just walk around the grounds and enjoy!
I did exactly the same thing for my son, i.e. babysitting duty while he and his wife indulged at the Hyatt. Be sure to thank your Mom (-: ! |

We stayed in an ocean front condo at Poipu Kai, rented by Suite Paradise, in 1994. It looked out over Shipwreck Beach, and the cliffs, as well as the Hyatt. Is it gone? |
Thanks all for the help!

Lex,
I did not know that Poipu Sands was part of Poipu Kai. I stand corrected. -Bill |
Indeed, Poipu Sands is part of Poipu Kai, however it stands alone as the only beachfront condo complex in Poipu Kai. The condos closest to the beach are in building 5. The next best views are in building 1. Buildings 4,3,2 have views of the pool and the Embassy Suites and a bit of the ocean. Building 6 is pure garden view. Poipu Sands is mostly 2BR units.
There are also some Manualoha units that have ocean views. To get more of an idea about Poipu Sands, please see: www.poipusands124.com Alan |
I've stayed in both Kiahuna and Poipu Sands and really, you can't go wrong with either one.
Kiahuna was 20 years ago but we wandered around it when we were there in July and it is every bit as nice now as it was then. The beach is very nice and pretty but rather narrow and the waters were a bit rough but swimmable. Kiahuna is a much larger property than Poipu Sands, with pretty common areas and a beach hut for towels, etc. I think there is also a restaurant on the grounds. Poipu Sands was this year and we liked it very much too. You can click on my name for my trip report for additional information. We got it through http://www.vrbo.com/44038. We were in Bldg 2, ground floor, 1 bedroom/1-1/2 bath unit. We had a very nice ocean and cliff view from the lanai where we could watch the surfers and people jumping from the cliffs. It's right next door to the Hyatt for cocktails/dining or you might want to catch sunset and dinner at the Beach House Restaurant. Have a wonderful time in paradise! ((R)) |
