Kauai -- Music Lovers!!!
GREAT NEWS for anybody who loves Hawaiian music -- and will be in Kauai August 2nd. I just learned that Aldrine Guerrero, ukulele virtuoso, will be one of the artists performing at the Hawaiian Night Concert with the Kauai Music Festival, Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Courtyard Marriott in Kapa'a!! It's open to the public.
The last time I saw Aldrine perform, I was literally on my feet screaming. He's that good. I thought his ukelele would burst into flames!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!! I'll be back in paradise two weeks from tomorrow. I'm counting the minutes. First I'll go tomorrow for a week of working in British Columbia, Canada -- where they're expecting temps of 103 degrees -- and there is no a/c -- and NO TRADEWINDS!!! |
Thanks for posting. So jealous!
|
Thanks Songdoc, I marked my calendar. Sounds like a great night out.
|
Songdoc, be on the lookout for us and come say hello, I would love to meet you. My husband and I will have an "active" 8 year old blonde haired/blue eyed boy with us. :)
|
Good for you Songdoc. Have a blast.
|
Thanks for posting, Songdoc, and enjoy the show! Do you know where to look for listings of artists who would be performing on island in September? Staying in Haena and would love hear some good ukulele or slack key guitar.
|
I'm back to civilization after working at the retreat in British Columbia. It was 106 degrees when I arrived. AGGHH!!! Otherwise, it was fantastic.
gmac -- I'll definitely look for you at the show. Sounds like you should be easy to find--and I'm looking forward to saying "hello" in person. FaceInTheCrowd: I typically go to www.thegardenisland,com and look at the entertainment listings to see what's going on in Kauai. I'll be there one week from today!!!!! |
I just ask former Fodorite poster Auntie Maria what's going on on Island when it comes to home grown music.
Or listen to her and other local DJs on KKCR over the internet. http://www.kkcr.org/ |
Hi gmac; how is it possible that little one is 8?
|
Auntie M suggested while driving around tune the car radio to KKNE 940am and they usually play Hawaiiana non-stop. Hard to get via regular radio but for some reason car radios get better reception.
Like KKCR as "good listen" on-line. http://tunein.com/radio/KKNE-940-s33378/ My blood pressure just dropped 20pts. |
WOW thanks for the great tip on KKCR. Got it bookmarked now. I can never get enough of Hawaiian music. It lifts my spirits as I envision Hawaii and the cooling breezes,a beautiful sunset, and a tropical drink in my hand.

We've been flying Hawaiian Air from SMF to HON/LIH since they opened that route and the BP drops as soon as we board the plane and hear the music.
Added treat when we find articles by fellow Fodorites MelissaHI and Mari808 in the HI Air mag. |
I love KKCR, too!
FYI, I'll be performing Friday night at the festival concert with Hot Chelle Rae, and some of the other mainland artists/instructors. But I'm REALLY looking forward to the Saturday night "Hawaiian" music concert. |
rncheryl--hard to believe isn't it. Years are flying by! Time for you to come back and celebrate another anniversary! He actually celebrated his 8th while we were in Kauai. :)
We just got back from Kauai and it was awesome. Very HOT this time. Tradewinds were minimal the first week. Songdoc--sorry, we never made it to the festival. Got sidetracked, hope you had a good time. |
Sidetracked???? On Kauai???...how does that ever happen? ;)
|
Thanks, Kal! Ever since KINE went to a subscription, I've been missing listening to Hawaiian music online.

Mahalo, Ms. Picks. :-X

Kal...you are funny. The 31st was my little guys birthday, so after a full day, we decided the next day to stay on the NShore.
You know how those Mai-Tais can sidetrack you! :) |
Ahhhh....the ol' mai tai flu!
We've been down in Poipu or over at Kekaha and blew off later plans once the whales started their "floor show". Back to music, nice place to look around for Island Music http://www.mele.com/ |
We'll be in the Princeville area Sept. 5-9 and are considering going to a Slack Key Guitar concert at the Hanalei Community Center -- either the Legends of Slack Key Guitar & Ukulele Concert on Fri., Sept. 5, or the For the Birds - Slack Key Guitar & Ukulele Concert on Sun., Sept. 7. Which of these is better? We'll then be in the Poipu area Sept. 10-14. Are there any (other) shows of Hawaiian music (including at bars or restaurants) that you'd recommend given our itinerary? Mahalo.
