kauai,maui, or the BI ?
we have 1 week and can't decide what 2 islands to hit -- all opinions welcome

Maui and Kauai! My wife and I honeymooned for two weeks last June, splitting the time between the two islands. We loved them both. However, if I had one week, I think I would just pick one island and spend all of my time there (probably Maui, even though Kauai is the most beautiful place I've ever been).

WE just spent a week in Maui this past April. There is so much to see and do there that it will take you an entire week to see it all. It is beautiful and lots of fun. Kauai is my next stop. I think I would reconsider an entire week to just one island. Be sure and take the road to Hana. The scenery is beautiful. Have fun.

Agree Agree Agree... MAUI and Kauai are the better places to stay... just flew in from Maui this past Monday as a matter of fact (May 22,2000)... weather was BEAUTIFUL (about 84F)... went up the volcano (scared me s**tless) went to Hana (617 hairpin turns, beautiful waterfalls)...

Although I have to admit that I want to go to the big isle...maybe next time.

-Grog

Have been to all three, and to Oahu as well. Definitely, Kauai and Big Island, hands down!!

Ethan, either Maui or Kauai. My husband and I spent 5 days on each island in June '98 for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Four Seasons on Maui and the Grand Hyatt on Kauai. We had the most incredible time. If we could only choose one to return to it would probably be Kauai, unbelievable waterfalls, lush greenery. Maui has this too of course, but we felt Kauai was a little more unspoiled by tourists and the locals were so genuine and friendly, less cosmopolitan than Maui. If you want to ask me specific questions feel free to email me.

Kauai & Big Island! Kauai is probably the lushest of all the isles and the Big Island offers things none of the others can i.e. active volcano & green sand beach (South Point), and the largest privately owned ranch in the entire U.S.

It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want lush, green, and secluded that's Kaui. It's my favorite (particularly the north side), but there isn't any nightlife. Maui is not as green, but has excellent watersports, and plenty of nightlife. Some people are taken aback by the BI because it doesn't have the typical tropical lushness you'd expect. Most of the island is black hardened lava, and your likely to find black sand beaches; it's unique. Not alot of nightlife there either. I've seen all three islands, but spent my honeymoon on Kaui and Maui and would suggest the same.
