Kauai Luau

15 days to get back to that wonderful island. Been there many times, but never did a luau. Staying in Poipu. Is the Hyatt Luau nice? Suggest another??
Thanks

Hi Jayhawk -

We did the Hyatt luau a few years ago, and I would say it is a definite must-to-avoid! Overpriced, mediocre food, and entertainment was boring. I've heard better things about Smith's and the one at Coconut Plantation, so check those out. Aloha and have fun! ((r))

Smith's tends to get fairly reliable and high marks from people. We did the Luau at Coconut Plantation a couple of years ago and it was worth the price of admission. I liked how the entire show was centered on the migration of the Tahiti people to the Hawaiian islands. Here are a plethora of links for your viewing too:

We attended the Smith's Luau (({)) Fern Grotto in February, they have wonderful grounds with a variety of plants & birds (the tram ride is ~$1.50 extra). I suspect they are the most expensive Luau, but the food is great. It is buried and cooked from the morning, and then ceremoniuosly unburied while everyone gathers around to watch - alooooohaaa :@).

Upon entry they take your photo and present you with a shell necklace ((g)) but later find out the photo is $15 (reminds me of Sea World).

There is also a luau at the Radisson on Monday evenings, we stayed here but missed the Luau (arrived late Monday and left early the next Monday. The Radisson has a nice layout, and is cheaper than Smith's. 8-)

Some friends went to Tahiti Nui last October and loved it.
