Kauai lodging help

Okay, I'm planning a long awaited trip to Kauai for myself, husband, sister in law and my two girls (7 & 2). When we were there years ago we stayed in a Poipu condo but I fell in love with Hanalei. I would love to stay close to the beach and town in a reasonably priced but nice, clean, updated house. I am down to these two http://www.napaliprop.com/halekamahina.html or http://www.cushniecottages.com/
Any experience with either of these? Any other suggestions?

We are also planning on a short hotel stay in Poipu. I'd love Hyatt but will probably stay at the Sheraton with points. How's the Sheraton?

Hi We just stayed at the Hyatt on a stay certificate for $319 which included taxes and all fees for 2 nights. We were suppose to have a garden view room but we were upgraded to an oceanview room with a great view. Great place to stay and then we were off to the North shore in our timeshare for a week.

They look like nice units, but if it were me I would check to make sure they are on the ocean side of the main highway. We've rented in Hanalei and it is nice to be between the ocean and the highway. We try to be somewhere on Weke Road or on one of the side streets that connects the highway to Weke. I like being as close to the water as I can possibly can afford.

If you have points for free rooms, the ocean front rooms at Sheraton are fine. Do not accept the Garden Rooms, across the road from the beach as they are old and do not get good reviews.

We like the Hyatt, more activities for kids with the waterslides and pools. Lagoon with sandy beach for the 2 year old. As stated they have rooms for $319.

Aloha from Princeville!

Regarding the two Hanalei properties:

That first one is 2 blocks from the beach...might be difficult toting the 2-year-old back and forth.

The 2nd one is even further away -- on the other side of the highway from town...l-o-n-g walk to beach.

Here are some of the reputable vacation rental companies which handle Hanalei properties -- you might want to see what they offer:

(they have Hanalei stuff, too)
