Kauai - Just got back

Just got back from Kauai, most amazing vacation i've ever had! Thanks to RichinPa, Kal, Totogirl and everyone else for all the info. I took a lot of pictures and had some developed in Kauai at Photo Spectrum and some developed back home in Philadelphia. Much better development in Hawaii. Aloha!

RichinPA Jun 5th, 2003 03:40 PM

Tom, just replied to your email. Hope my info was useful and glad to see you enjoyed that very special island. 43 days till I leave, not that I'm counting.

How was the weather while you were there and where did you stay, eat, what did ya do. Damn, I am nosy.

Tomg Jun 6th, 2003 05:19 AM

Weather was great, 80's and sunny and breezy everyday. To eat? Dukes Canoe club at the Marriot. In Kapaa, Kintaro has a great Teppan Yaki section. Also in Kapaa Lemongrass and Coconuts were very good and cool places. Zelo's in Hanalei was awesome. Enjoy!

Kal Jun 6th, 2003 06:08 AM

Alooohaaaaa all,
Just rolled in from San Diego and my sides are killing me! 8-)

You "double digiters" are KILLIN' me!
We have around 204 to go.

Coconuts for the Lobster raviolis!
No complaints about Lemon Grass' slow service? We've been there 3-4 times and hadn't really experienced it...but he was slow in brining me a beer one time so.....

Some newer places we tried last Dec/Jan were The Shack in Kapaa. The old Kapaa Fish and Chowder House. A chain but good and fairly inexpensive food. Sports bar w/ sattlelite TV too.

Hukilau in the Coconut Beachboy right behind the CocoMktPlace.

Aussie Tims BBQ across from Kintaro's, behind Mema's.

Wild Bill's Deli/Coffee a few doors down from Border's. I'net access and good coffee drinks/pastries and sammies.

Tomg, Did Duke's still have "Taco Tuesdays"?
Had a really good breakfast at The Olympic Cafe in D'town Kapaa.

Can't wait to be sitting on the front porch of Eggbert's looking out over The Sleeping Giant and King Kong planning a day of doing absolutely nothing!
=P~
Mucho mahalos and welcome back?

Tomg Jun 6th, 2003 09:45 AM

Hey Kal, yes Dukes still has taco tuesday, I got there late though. Bartender said it was packed and they ran out of tacos! When I was at Lemongrass it was empty so the service was fast. 204 will go quick, just think happy thoughts like you are doing. I think i'll start planning my next trip, I miss it already! Thanks and have a great day.

Here's my CC dining list for Kauai that get us those multi-extra ((g)) FF miles, although according to the wife :-O we will not be gracing Eggbert's again... but that's their problem. :-(

However, this time we'll have a full kitchen :@) and will probably help fill the cash register :`( at Foodland.

At this time (not that we've been to all these places), our favorite is probably Hula girl for the Lava Flow. ((D))((D)) ((D))

Kal -

Before we left I recalled that (probably) you said this was a good place for breakfast (generous portions). However, we went there for a late lunch before shopping the Coconut. We walked into Eggbert's and the place looked half closed, so we sat out on the terrace (okay). The waitress was initially not very forth-coming, nor was she during our meal, and my wife asked for about three different meals from the menu before finding one they could actually make (a sandwich). And then she didn't like it at all, especially considering the price. The day before, on the way to the canyon, we had reasonably priced meals for the portions in Waimea. She had a great (according to her) calzone, and some of us had sandwiches that were HUGE. :@) So, she was not at all impressed with Eggbert's and the rest of us didn't particularly care for the food either. Now, perhaps we made a mistake in not going there at breakfast time (and maybe they were near to being closed?), but it would take a lot of convincing to get my wife back there with all the other places to eat. She liked our dinner at the Hula Girl which, ironically and as you know, is at the other end of Coconut from Eggbert's. At this point, there are too many more places to try without going back to Eggbert's (we also liked our lunch at The Shack). We're waiting to try out La Playita Azul, which is among some new additions to the dining list.

((D)) We like Margaritas, but she leans (falls) more toward the strawberry Daquiries. ((D))

bien dias ((R))

To DB and Kal:
I have only had breakfasts at Eggberts, but never had a problem with either service and or the quality of the food, both were great. By the BY, were you aware that the same people own both the Hula Girl and Eggberts? At least as of last year.

Kal, nothing beats the Old margarita's, sitting on the ouside and watching the goats and horses. Love the frozen Strawberry Marguarita's. Is the new joint any good, Fishbowls? May have to give it a whirl this year......oficial count 42 days till three weeks of vegetating.

Guys,

Just showed this thread to my wife and she says, "sure maybe for breakfast because they would have fresh stuff with eggs" (hmmmm, so you think that's why it's called Eggbert's?).

Now, with apologies to Tomg for appropriating this thread; grab a dacarita or marguiri, put up your feet, and click on this:

Drat,

forgot to mention I have to use IE for that link to work. So, if you are using some kinda Mozilla 8-|) change to IE if you have it (best to have Quick Time Player already installed as well).

From 35 down to 18, now to just cut that in half ((o)) ...God willin' and the wind doesn't rise (beyond 15-25 mph). B-)

Never forget:
