I flew in one of InterIsland's Hughes 500's with the doors off and I can give you these impressions. It is not any more scary. There is no feeling of falling out (you are strapped in with a shoulder harness). There is very little wind through the cabin. They caution the passengers to strap on cameras etc so nothing falls out. The view is far superior to looking (or shooting) through plexiglass. And the 4 passenger max is really great. Every passenger gets an excellent view with no "second-class" seats in the middle. I've flown in lots of helicopters and this flight felt very safe and the pilot was very considerate. That's my 2-cents worth.
