Kauai in March

Hi - my husband and I are spending 4 days in Kauai (before moving on to the Big Island) in early March. I'm leaning towards staying at the Princeville on the north shore, but after reading some postings have been a bit worried about the weather and the bugs people keep mentioning. I'm thiking we'll do a fair amount of exploring and hiking (as opposed to straight beach going) so I'm wondering what people think. Is the Princeville a good choice in early march? Is there something else we should consider? Are the bugs really that bad?

Any advice would be appreciated!

We usually visit Princeville annually in Feb-March and the weather was fine for 3 out 4 visits. Our visit last March was an exception in that it was ((R))overcast 4 out of 5 days, and we still managed to get one great ((#)) day in on our last day.

The safest bet weatherwise is in southern Kaua`i (e.g. Poipu), though the scenic beauty up north continues to drive us to return there. Thanks to Kaua`i's ~:>~:>~:> bugs aren't much of a problem :S-

Ciao Bella l'italy!
And the same to you and your lovely famiglia! Hope to see you in Sonoma this March.

JD,
I don't need any bug repellant...in fact I hear all the insects are storing up "Kal repellant"!b(

And, ksblank, all seriousness, there are no sure things on Kauai but in March I'd shoot for the Poipu area.

And I'm not even gonna touch a joke about a "straight beach"! :-d

With regards to the bug question. We've been in the summer months and the mosquitos come out at dusk and if you are not protected can be bothersome, but nothing like the swarms I experienced in Alaska or in the Sierras while hiking. We spray on Off and are usually okay.
Kal: Best to you and Mrs. Kal. Please make sure your research is thoroughly conducted this year!8-)

bill,
I've been watching reruns of all the CSI programs.
I will be going over everything with a fine toothed comb....especially the Joe's on the Green Omlette with taro and jalapenos.
Mucho mahalos.

I think you would be better off stretching out in Poipu. You can only sip so many tropical drinks as you watch the rain come down. You can always drive up to Princeville and gaze around.
