Kauai in January
 

I am going to Kauai in Jan.of 2004. We are staying at the Princeville Resort. I have heard that the weather is rainy during Jan. Has anyone been there during that time and what was it like. Also, any suggestions on horseback riding or helicopter rides would be great. Thanks

We will also be in Kauai at the end of January - I am also interested in the weather. The last time we went it was in November - the weather was great except for one day that it rained most of the day. Hopefully someone that has been in January can provide some insight.

Stayed at the Princeville this past Feb. for 6 nites and it didn't rain for more than 15-20 any day we were there. Could've been a fluke but I also wouldn't stress too much about it either.

We stayed 2 nites at the fabulous Princeville Hotel late January this year: rained part of a day and clear the other. It's always very wet up and around the Na Pali coast area. The waves/surf is very, very big and dramatic on the north shore in January and it's neat to watch the surfers. We did go into the water, but only where there were other people already in and some were snorkeling (we did this on the south shore later in the week).

It was highly recommended to us to use Jack Harter helicopters, and not from the little airport near Princeville. JH is very professional, they use noise-cancelling headsets and the ride was very, very smooth, nothing about dips and craziness that you might have heard about. They are right near the Lihue airport; you must reserve ahead. Go in the morning when the weather tends to be clearer. It was a thrill of our lifetime to do this.

You will love it!! it is a gorgeous place, all of it. If you are at the hotel for Fri night, reserve for the seafood buffet; quite amazing!!, though we found the desserts disappointing, but we were so full by then it hardly registered.

The short answer is who knows. There used to be consistancy to Hawaii weather but the weather patterns sort of went gonzo in the middle 1990's due to drought which is still sort of lingering. Princeville is genarally raniest resort in state. If 2004 returns to true weather patterns, you can bet your life on rain in Princeville in January.
