Kauai In April

My wife and I are going to Kauai early April for 7 days. We are staying at the Sheraton Poipu. I'm hoping for some reviews of the hotel, good places to eat, sights to see and advice on golf courses. Thanks in advance for your help!

Drive the Kokee State Park road all the way to the top where it overlooks the NaPali Coast. You'll see Waimea Canyon and parts of the spectacular north coast of Kauai.

I also like to go to Princeville and Hanalei. Princeville is a great spot to view the sunsets.

Aloha Greg, We stayed ther elast year It's a nice property. Make sure you get a room on the ocean side of the resort. There are rooms on both sides of the road. As far as good places to eat- Roy's, The Beach House(make sure you're there for sunset), Tidepools at the Hyatt, A Pacific CAfe in KaApa. As far as Golf, the Poipu BAy Course is a good layout. Also Kiahuna Is a good one. I prefer Poipu Bay. The 1 thing that is a must on Kauai is the Helicopter tour.

i have been to kauai twice with my husband and three teen/adults. the best investment you can make is buying a book (sells at barnes & noble and other stores) called "Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed"
Andrew Doughty, Harriett Friedman
We purchased this and i had all and any ideas of what we could see and do. it is worth the $13 and try to pick it up bvefore you go and read....and dream. you will love kauai, out favorite island! anything else you want to know? we rented a condo from vrbo.com both times. (vacation rental by ownerss). the sheraton looked good from what i saw and what folks said there.. have fun!

me again... this book has alot of ofdff the beaten path sights as well as what is popular. for instance, it will take you through a drive from poipu along the eastern shore, up tp na pali coast. i strongly suggest a hike into the na pali coast, the view is fantastic, the hike a taste of paradise. also do the waimai canyon (the grand canyon of the pacific) in early early a.m., to miss the fog. you can drive to that, walk a short while and see a spectacular view.

We were in Kauai last month. My husband golfed at Poipu Bay, Kauai Lagoons (Kiele Course) and Princeville (Prince Course). There is something called the Kauai Golf Challenge that allows you to play all three courses for a set price (still a lot of money, but a substantial discount off the highest rates). He said the Kiele Course at kauai lagoons (in Lihue, next to the Marriott) was the best, I think. You can get twilight rates at all of these courses, but remember the wind does tend to kick up in the afternoon. Have fun!

My wife and I have spent two weeks in Kauai each of the last 4 years and will be going agin in September.
1. Strongly agree with getting "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" - worth its weight in gold.
2. Golf - the Prinveville, Hyatt, and Marriott courses mentioned above are all beautiful and challenging and expensive. A double-bogey golfer like myself has fun at the public course in Wailua and the ultimate cheapskate 9-hole course Kukeolona in Kalaheo - $7 a round.
3. Food:
a) best all around = Roy's - make sure to get the chocolate souffle
b) other good places in Poipu: Beach House, Brennecke's, the Sheraton for breakfast buffet, Keoki's Paradise for burgers.
c) Italian = Pomodoro's in Kalaheo
d) Pizza = Brick Oven in Kalaheo
d) Thai - King and I in Kapaa
e) Shave Ice - JoJo's in Wailea (on the way to Wailiea Canyon/Kokee State Park
4) Tourist stuff not to miss:
a) the first part of the NaPali Coast Hike
b) the views of Waimea Canyon and the NaPali coast from Kokee
c) Helicopter ride
d) NaPali Coast boat trip
3) beaches too numerous to list - some good for boogie boarding, some for snorkeling, some for swimming, some for wave watching, some for nudist watching, etc - see the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook.
Have fun
