Kaua'i: Hyatt, Marriott or Sheraton

Kaua'i: Hyatt, Marriott or Sheraton
I've read the reviews on all of these hotels and overall they all sound nice. Are any of them within walking distance of other restaurants, shops or hotels or are they all self contained resorts? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to being in Po'ipu vs being in Lihue? Which area (Po'ipu or Lihue) has more restaurants, shops etc around? I know the point of Kaua'i is to enjoy the natural beauty, but since I travel solo I like to be more central. Thanks.

Hi We just got back from the Kauai hyatt. It is not in walking distance of restaurants. There was one hotel(not sure of the name that was directly across from the Popoi village shopping center which is a nice area of shops and restaurants(roys was in there). Maybe someone on this board knows the name of that resort

The resort directly across from Poipu shopping center is the Kiahuna Plantation. This is a beautiful place with condos that have kitchens and laundry etc. Castle Resorts and Outrigger both rep the units, so does kiahunabeachside.com (for the units near the water) You can walk to the Marriot Waiohai, the Sheraton and the Poipu shops and restaurants with ease. Great swimming beach and snorkeling right there!
As to the resorts you mentioned. I think the Hyatt would be at the top of my list. Great property for families. The Sheraton has a great location but I have read so-so things about the accomodations. The Marriot Waiohai and the Sheraton are walkable to the Poipu village shops.
The Marriot at Kalpaki Beach in Lihue is a big property with great golf courses and huge pools, but it is hard to beat Poipu. (plus the airport is very close to this Marriot)

I'd stay in Poipu at either the Sheraton or the Hyatt. The oceanfront rooms at the Sheraton are right on the ocean. Very close! The Sheraton has a better beach for swimming than the Hyatt, especially in the winter months. I love the Hyatt though. For us, it was the perfect place to chill out for a few days before reentry into reality again.
