Kauai Helicopter Tour
Where do these helicopter tours leave from? If from the Lihue Airport, how much time does it take to get to the airport from Princeville? Also, how much would you expect to pay for the 90 minute tour/person?

Heidi,

My hub have been researching this very question (for what seems months) as we will be going to Hawaii next week. Here is a link that has links to all the helicopter tour companies, each explaining there different tour packages.

www.wizardpub.com

select enter, select Ultimate Kauai, select Links. Scroll down the page to the helicopter tour section.

The www.wizardpub.com locks up my computer when I click on a tab, something quirky about my computer I guess.

I did find out from a friend that just came back from Kauai that she used Air Kauai and it left from the airport, she reserved the tour 2 days in advance. She said the Air Kauai had a new helicopter so that's why they decided to use them, more viewing area. She said she paid $155/person for 1 hour.

We decided on inter-island. A two hour tour that includes a stop (for about 1/2 hour - 45 minute for lunch) at a remote waterfalls. No doors tho on the helicopter, but no glare for pictures. This service leaves from Port Allen, lessening the amount of time going over residential areas. Let me know if you want the link

Heidi, they all leave from Lihue Airport. I'd allow an hour to get there just to be safe & use the bypass road around Kapaa if you can--traffic can wad up there something fierce. The 90 minute trip on Air Kauai was $165 I think for 90 min--and worth every nickel. My folks also liked Jack Harter.

You can also buy the "Ultimate Kauai" book that gives you detailed information on the various Helicopter tour companies and allot of other great info on Kauai

Heidi,
Juli is wrong - they ALL don't take off from Lihue. Here is the link mentioned before on inter-island

http://www.hawaiian.net/~interisland...ing_kauai.html

I read on one of the posts that we should arrange a helicopter tour from the north shore area, that way you don't waste time in the congested area around the airport.

Does anyone know who services the north shore, if they do at all?

If the north shore arrangement available, looks like it makes more sense to go with Inter-Island. Sounds like you get more bang for your buck since you don't have to fly over the congested area around Lihue.
