kauai, hawaii lodging advice
I am having a heck of a time deciding where my family of 3(with 20 month old toddler) should stay for the first 5 of eight nights on kauai in Sept. I figured i'd ask for the experience of any fodorites who might have stayed at any of these specific units. My hubbie and i are both very heat sensitive, and would love it if any advice re: the non-a/c units coolness. Also..screens good? I wanna be able to keep the skeeters out at dawn and dusk..
Here goes: Alii Kai 2102 Emmalani Ct. 515 or Pali Ke Kua 202 Thanks! cousin annie |
Although Alii Kai was closer to the ((8))ocean((8)), I would go with Pali Ke Kua because of the easier, paved trail down to Hideaways Beach, not to mention picnic facilities.
:S- Have not stayed at Emmalani Ct:? |
Thanks, John.. that is helpful.

John..
Which units at alii kai and PKK have you stayed at? They seem to all vary so wildly! : o ) annie |

Took a peek at Pali Ke Kua 202 and it has a wider ocean view of Bali Hai mountains and is a few feet closer to the ocean than the unit we stayed in which was ~half dozen units >202 to the right or east, and opposite the entrance to the paved trail to Hideaways beach. The link below also states that PKK 202 has A/C and I don't think ours did: <font color="blue">http://www.rent101.com/vacation-rent...il.asp?id=4839 </font> Since you are going in September, which is not whale watching season, I would go with PKK. :S- The Alii Kai unit you referenced does not look like the unit we stayed at which was instead a top floor unit without A/C with views and furnishings similar to the one shown in link:<font color="blue"> www.kauaivacationrentals.com/static/169.html</font></font></font> |
Mahalo mahalo, John! I so much appreciate you sharing your experiences!

Looks like you're interested in condos in Princeville. If that's the case, the 2 best sites to find these are:
http://www.princeville-vacations.com/kauai_condos.html and http://www.remaxkauai.com/rek/rentals/pv-condos.html |
Because we live in Princeville, we send visiting friends/family to all sorts of vacation rental properties here -- so allow me to add my 2 cents, 'kay? 8-)
Alii Kai 2102 -- my son & family (2 small children) loved this place so much, that it's now their favorite condo complex. All units are individually owned, so you've got to depend on their ad (unless you've got friend/family who can personally check it for you). If you're renting from a vacation rental company (as opposed to VRBO), odds are better that the unit will be in good condition. Emmalani Ct. 515 This condo complex is the newest of all that you've listed -- on the golf course, closest to highway and shopping center. Pali Ke Kua 202 Best views, for sure. Be wary of the path to the beach though -- paved but VERY steep (watch that toddler!). Setting sun will make the unit warm for a few hours -- but the ceiling fans will help considerably. This condo complex is almost at the end of Princeville's main road -- easy walk to Princeville Hotel. You should expect all of these units to have excellent screening on their windows -- and keeping the ceiling fans running, helps keep the skeeters off-balance and unable to land (true!). |
you'll have a bunch of fun in Kauai! I would research a bit before you make your decision on a kauai vacation rental or condo. A number of private owned vacation rentals are great though a big pricey. If you want something a bit cheaper you should check out:

omarpeppy,
Why did you top a post that is almost 4 years old? |
Reply to Bill,
Good ((?)), as other posts feature redundant links :^o |
iamq, does it really matter that the post is 4 yr old???
Unfortunately the web is so big I only recently stumbled upon this thread...nothing wrong with contributing and helping other travelers right? Besides Castle has some great affordable hotels...I've stayed at a couple of them and they're all great on the wallet...especially good in times like these. |
