Oh.......and don't forget, you will be slowed down to Island time instead of Yankee driving!

Budman Apr 17th, 2005 05:01 PM

And what makes you think I'm a Damn Yankee? ((a)) ((b))

iceeu2 Apr 18th, 2005 04:08 AM

Didn't call you a Damn Yankee! A Damn Yankee comes and stays....you went back!!

auntiemaria Apr 18th, 2005 07:32 PM

Budman:

Long drive from Barking Sands to Kapa`a -- closer to 90 minutes or more.

The good news is, you'll be driving _against_ the afternoon commute traffic. Take your time, enjoy the views. We'll keep the wine chilled for you! :-d

Budman Apr 19th, 2005 03:51 AM

90 minutes? Does that include a stop at The Shrimp Station?

OK, I'm bringing 3-4 bottles of "whine" (Budbrew), plastic glasses (I don't think they would appreciate real glass around the pool area), and some Shrimp Station goodies.

I plan to leave Barking Sands around Noon and just meander my way to Kappa, maybe taking in a snorkel or two. ((b))

Kal Apr 19th, 2005 07:44 AM

B'man,
Make it 2 hrs because you'll want to stop by Da Booze Shop in Waimea!

Color me jealous...but since it's on Kauai, it will probably be raining, lotta mosquitos, chickens, and rude help that will ruin your GTG. O:)

Oh, and you're right..."No glass around the pool please".

253!

auntiemaria Apr 19th, 2005 09:34 AM

Hey Kal, the subject is "wine", not "whining"!! :-D

Speaking of wine, there's a great little wine shop in Puhi -- right across the highway from the community college. The owner is quite knowledgable and helpful. We'd fallen in love with a Selbach Reisling while dining at A Pacific Cafe, and the Puhi wine shop was recommended.

Interestingly enough, the Princeville Foodland now carries it, too (at about $5 less per bottle...yay!), as part of their newly-expanded wine section.

iceeu2 Apr 19th, 2005 11:43 AM

I forgot what I am supposed to bring to go with the "whine"...I thought it was on this thread, but guess not.

Am I picking up something at Scotty's or Coconuts or both...and if so, what so???..

bill....wanna guess how many more days??? ok, ok....it's only 25!!!!!((r))((r))((r))

iamq Apr 19th, 2005 12:52 PM

i2,
...gee and I thought you'd forgotten all about me! Just wait till you are back and you have to read my countdown!

99 for me!

-Bill

Kal Apr 19th, 2005 02:59 PM

billy,
I start feeling better when my countdown is less than my weight. At 253, I'm getting pretty darn close! \:D/ :^o\:D/:^o\:D/:^o\:D/

Auntie M-There was a post about digital photography on Kauai. Maybe I can send you guys a photograph of my fave "digit" for the GTG? O:)

As for wine, I thought Safeway, K'mart and Wal Mart had a good selection and decent prices.

I'2-Dunno if you want to try and bring some Lobster ravs or seafood cigs from Coconuts but I bet Scotty's BBQ travels well.

Safeway has a lotta to good stuff..like the BIG hoagies. Since you'll be having wine, what about a cheese board and some apples?

We had one friend bring a big old order of fresh sashimi from that fish market near the hospital/Wal Mart to share with other bar patrons.
Onoliscious!

The Sand Bar is still being remodeled but it should be re-opened by then....knock on koa....so I expect a lot of pics.

iceeu2 Apr 19th, 2005 03:54 PM

So what type of cheese to I need to get to go with the Budbrew? And, tell me what else to bring...I follow directions real well...and, I can cook too, but that's for another place and time!!

iamq Apr 19th, 2005 05:33 PM

Kal,
I start feeling better when my countdown gets to be around what my IQ is...let's see I am down to 99, so that should be in about another week! 8-}

-Bill

Budman Apr 19th, 2005 05:42 PM

iceeu2 -- finger foods -- something simple. We don't want anybody to go to a whole lot of trouble. Surprise us.

36 more days. ((r)) ((r)) ((b))

iamq Apr 20th, 2005 05:19 AM

i2,
The ultimate in finger foods are the deep fried terriyaki chicken nuggets from the Pono Market in Kapa`a. Perfect with "whine"!
-Bill

iceeu2 Apr 20th, 2005 04:02 PM

You know guys...as long as this thread is you would think more than 5 couples will be getting together for this event.

Bill, just call the Pono Market and give them you credit card #...I will pick up the chicken for you! That way you will feel that you are a BEEEEEG part of the GTG.

Oh my goodness, I almost forgot to tell you how many more days, but guess you must know by now!!! Hot damn, I can't wait!

pspercy Apr 21st, 2005 06:15 PM

Kal's "digit":

iceeu2 Apr 22nd, 2005 07:02 AM

percy, was that taken at The Sandbar? And what is that? Wood with what? Where is Mrs. Kal's, I saw his. Right up front!

Kal Apr 22nd, 2005 08:47 AM

Hey!
My digit is bigger than that!!! >:O

"Finger food"?

Q: "Should olives be eaten with fingers"?

A: No...according to the "Wendy's Lady", fingers should be eaten separately...with a side order of chili!

iceeu2 Apr 22nd, 2005 09:20 AM

Kal, there you go dreaming again!

I laughed when I saw your post...we were just discussing "the finger" at lunch as we had our Wendy's chili!!!!!!!!

And since you are a bicycler, just saw Lance Armstrong this morning. We went to the start of the 4th stage of the Tour De Georgia. They are headed across the mountain near our abode right about now!

Kal Apr 22nd, 2005 09:27 AM

Wow!!! I'm pooped just thinking about them riding!
I better go take a nap.(:|

Looks like the arrested the "Finger Lady?

pspercy Apr 22nd, 2005 09:59 AM

icee, yes Sand Bar, September 2002:)

iceeu2 Apr 22nd, 2005 05:56 PM

Oh, now I see, pspercy..It amazes me how dense I can be sometimes, to think I know so much...

iceeu2 Apr 24th, 2005 04:44 AM

Topping for those who may have missed this. Plus, I have to dream of Hawaii, since it is 38 degrees this morning here in the sunny south.:d

Budman May 1st, 2005 06:36 AM

Bringing this puppy up to the top. For those of you who are not yet committed, just show up!!!

We'll be at the Aston Islander, by the pool area, from 5-7pm. I have it on good authority that there'll be plenty of "whine."

By the way, exactly where is the Islander, since this will be our first full day on Kauai, and we will be coming from the West? What landmarks do I look out for?

24 days and a wake up. ((r)) ((r)) ((b))

auntiemaria May 1st, 2005 11:22 AM

Look for the large Coconut Marketplace shopping center in Kapa`a, makai (ocean side) of the highway. Pull in the main driveway (between the shopping center, and the Best Western Plantation Hale condo buildings.

Behind the shopping center -- toward the right side -- follow the road until you see the construction stuff fronting the Islander. Here's an aerial view of the property, including the pool area:

Bring pupus! Bring whines! 8-)

iceeu2 May 1st, 2005 11:50 AM

Do you think Kal and the Mrs. will surprise us for the GTG? Or, do you just think we will have unlimited access to his bar tab??????

See y'all on the 27th! Can't wait. I think we all need to post a photo so we will know who we are looking for!

Budman May 1st, 2005 02:51 PM

You can find me on this thread: http://www.pbase.com/tpatricco/njny_fodorite_gtg_2004

Thanks for the directions, AuntieM.

Look for the "whine" and "pupus" by the pool.((b))

Budman May 3rd, 2005 06:32 AM

Just got the word from a very reliable source that tells me the Sand Bar at the Aston Islander on the Beach will be undergoing renovations at the time we are supposed to GTG. So,

We're going to move the GTG to the Pono Kai Resort 5-7pm on the 27th of May (that's where the ice's are staying). They are hosting. Yippee!!! Here are the directions from the Airport:

Take Highway 51 (Kapule Hwy) north for about 1.3 miles. Continue on Highway 56 (Kuhio Hwy) for about 5 miles to the resort.

We just might end up after the GTG having some BBQ and a couple of brews at Scotty's.

Confirmed: Budman, iceeu2, and AuntieM.

blue kite, Nat04, kblonkowski and others on Kauai on May 27th?? ((b))

Budman May 4th, 2005 04:37 AM

ttt. ((b))

blue_kite May 5th, 2005 02:54 PM

Just called Aston, the renovation will complete by end of May. Then please count me in at pono kai!

iceeu2 May 5th, 2005 03:21 PM

So does that mean the Sandbar will be open? Blue kite, please email me at [email protected] and I will give you my credentials!!8-)

Budman May 5th, 2005 04:12 PM

I called and the Sand Bar will be closed from 16 May to 16 June, but the pool will be open.

The GTG is "a go" at Pono Kai Resort 5-7pm on the 27th of May. We'll make our own entertainment.

Anybody else? ((b))

iceeu2 May 5th, 2005 04:54 PM

See you at the Pono Kai.

Kal May 9th, 2005 12:45 PM

:`(:`(:`(:'(:'(:'(

((U))
We just booked our Monterey to Pismo trip so no suprises on Kauai from us.....or did weeeeeeeee???? :-"

MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA evil laff ((6))

iceeu2 May 9th, 2005 03:45 PM

Budman, be sure to phone me before you purchase wine glasses. There may be some in the condo.

And, we will get some cheese and fruit to go with the "whine". No need for you all to bring anything except what you may want to drink.

Hot damn....it's only 5 more days until we leave the sunny south for paradise...((r))

Anyone else joining us?

iamq May 9th, 2005 06:46 PM

i2,

Only 5 days? How exciting!

Expect an e-mail from me.

-Bill

iceeu2 May 10th, 2005 04:13 AM

Got it Billy!

Those of you who have not responded are going to miss seeing a group of fun people.

Since this thread has gotten so long and hard to follow, I am going to post a new one here in a bit.

auntiemaria May 10th, 2005 09:29 AM

Since many hotel/condo properties have a "no glass containers" rule for their pool areas, I'll bring plastic drinkware...just in case.

Y'all come!

gyppielou May 10th, 2005 08:01 PM

sad gyppie sad.........I am green with envy...you know that green, the color when you swim into HippieBeach(Tunnels) and then swim a little to the left...that color green.......wishing you grand fun times...unless Kal and the Mrs. show up, then I will be even greener with envy...you know the color if you take the left at the monkey tree to Polihale and then swim right....damn life's not fair. At least I have lonely research in August!!!!!!! Good times everyone!!!!

Budman May 11th, 2005 04:01 AM

AuntieM, that'll be great if you could bring the plastic drink cups. I'm bringing some whine (3-4 bottles), water, and Shrimp Station (Thai Garlic and/or Coconut).

We'll probably explore Waimea Canyon our first day then meander our way around to Kapaa, stopping by the Shrimp Station on our way out of the Canyon. ((b))
