Have stayed at the Marriott and the Holiday Inn Sunspree. Would recommend both. Obviously the Marriott is much nicer - has an amazing pool, great beach, beautiful grounds and wonderful service. If you're looking to go budget, I'd stay at the Holiday Inn Sunspree. The staff was great and the place was clean! I don't think there was even a charge for parking. With a AAA discount, we paid about $120/night in Jan. 01.

Stayed at Whalers Cove condos. Reservations through Suite Paradise for a better rate. Beautiful and small complex right on the ocean. Pool and spa are right next to the ocean. Nice decor and great front desk. Lanai is very large with furniture. Get building 1 for best location.

Suzie - my boyfriend and I are considering Whalers Cove for our honeymoon - does it have a swim-able beach right there, looks like from the picture on the website it's on a cliff. Is there a beach nearby? Any information you could provide is much appreciated!!

Amy,

Though not a sandy beach right on sight, the pool is very close to the water. There are nice lounge chairs around the pool. There are stairs leading from the grounds to the water so you can go snorkeling right there. Down the road toward the Beach House there is a sandy beach. Ther are many nice beaches to visit on Kauai. Make sure you have purchased the Ultimate Guide to Kauai before you go! :)

Suuuuz,
That little beach that you mention was very nice and good snorkeling.

Also, isn't Poipu Beach/Sheraton pretty close too? May even be within walking distance? Unless you're lugging a lot of beach stuff w/ you?

Lots of beaches close by and you can take that little road that runs in front of Poipu Kapili all the way to the Sheraton. Turn left at teh Fire station like you're going to the Beachouse and then stay left. Nice little drive along that road.

We didn't really spend too much time at an actual beach. We hiked and sailed and snorkeled....

OOps turn right at the fire station if you are driving into Poipu. You'd only turn left if you were coming from the direction of the hyatt or the Poipu shopping center area.

The Princeville Resort cannot be beat. It is beautiful and elegant, the rooms are gorgeous. We had an incredible view of Hanalei Bay from our Jr. Suite - double rainbows every day! Magical...
