Kauai Christmas Honeymoon

We are planning a honeymoon this Dec to Maui and Kauai. Trying to decide b/w Hyatt and Princeville. Any thoughts b/w the 2? Any advice on how to pay less than $400 during Xmas week? The typical discounts i.e. Starwood, etc. don't seem to apply after 12/25, but if you have any special tricks, we'd love to know. Lastly, any thoughts on cheaper beautiful hotel than Hyatt on south shore (yet still as nice)?
Thanks.

to clarify, my question was all for Kauai, since we're pretty well set in Maui.

My husband and I love the Princeville area-it is very beautiful. However, December is one of the wetter months on the north shore so I would opt for the south shore. The Hyatt is very nice, very hawaiian feel. I don't know of any hotel in that area nicer than the hyatt and during Christmas week I think prices will be steep.
Have fun!
Hyatt is nice but I think the North shore will be dramatic in Winter. Yes high chance of showers but only a backdrop to high waves. Gorgeous side of this island in any weather. Poipu area while it is close to Waimea canyon, and other great hiking spots is is just not as beautiful as the North Shore Kauai. This is my opinion.

December can be a rainy month, especially on the north end of Kauai. Best to stay in Poipu and drive up to the north shore to sightsee. Poipu is closer to the airport and shopping in Lihue. I think just about every property in Poipu is cheaper than the Hyatt. Consider the poipu sheraton, its not as nice as the hyatt, but the beach there is better that the Hyatts for swimming.

John,
I have been doing research for our trip to Kauai next Sept. You must go to the website for Gloria's Spouting Horn B&B. It is absolutely gorgeous, only 3 rooms, I think $250 night year round, includes full breakfast and afternoon drinks and "pupu" (I think that means appetizers :). They even have a honeymooner's room they call the "love nest"...
Congratulations!
