Kauai Beach Resort or Courtyard by Marriott Kuaui in Kapa'a

Has anyone stayed at the Aston Kauai Beach Resort near Lihue? The most recent thread I could find is 3 years old. The price is fantastic. I'm not worried a out the lack of a swimming beach. Also I wonder how it compares to the Marriott Courtyard.

Take the best deal as if you are like us - you won't be spending that much time in the resort - other than maybe having breakfast - or drinks and pu-pu's on the deck while admiring the ocean view.

Just to add - looked it up on another travel blog - which gives user reviews - and you might ask when the last time it was renovated?

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that what tomsd is saying is that he has no frickin idea because he has never visited either property. good luck. I think there is a poster here that has stayed there a couple of times and will check in. I've not visited either, but did enjoy my stay at The Islander which is smaller.

use care to make sure you are looking at the proper reviews as you seem to be interested in the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel, and not the Kauai Beach Resort, which are two very different properties.

We stayed a couple of nights several years ago at The Courtyard when it was brand new(it changed to another shingle and is now a Courtyard again). The room was small.

As far as the other property, if you are speaking of The Kauai Beach Resort, I don't know about the rooms, but the public areas and the pool are outstanding. But, if you are speaking of the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel, I don't have a clue.

Aloha

Yes, Songdoc has stayed at the KBR many times;-).

The KBR is fine--not spectacular--but very nice. Pretty pool and nice walks along the beach--but as you mentioned, not for swimming. But I'm not sure we're talking about the same property. The Kauai Beach Resort is an Aqua hotel--not an Aston. I haven't stayed at the Aston. Let us know which property you're referring to.

I'm not a big fan of the Marriott in Lihue. It's my least favorite part of the island. Lots of cruise ship tourists and tacky souvenir shops. I haven't stayed in the hotel, but have visited the beach, and walked around the property. I find the beach pretty bland compared to the gorgeous Hanalei Bay, Tunnels, Ke'e, Lumahai, Anini, and so many others. But both of these hotels are centrally located to reach the North Shore, Poipu, and Waimea Canyon. Personally, I much prefer the North Shore.

I actually prefer the Marriott Courtyard on the Coconut Coast near Kapa'a to the bigger, fancier Marriott in Lihue. I got it for $75/nt 2 or 3 years ago as a 3-1/2 star hotel on Priceline and was very pleased. It just had a nice feel and I liked the location. Again, not a swimming beach--but a pretty beach to walk on.

FYI, I'll be going to Kauai in 11 more days and will be staying the first few days at Plantation Hale Suites in Kapa'a until the condo in Princeville is ready. I got the hotel for $69/nt. Haven't stayed there before and hope it'll be ok.

The news I heard today is that there were 25 foot waves in that area where he drowned. I'm not even sure I have seen a 25 foot high wave!

Than k you. I'm interested in the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort and/or the Marriott Kauai Beach resort at Lihui. I was confused by Aton Vs Aqua. At any rate...I can save 1,000by staying at the Kauai Beach Resort. The reviews of both are consistently good but when someone doesn't like the KBR they really hate it. Nevertheless, I'm going for the Kauai Beach Resort, $1,000 is a lot of money!

There's no way I would spend $1,000 more for the Marriott. The Kauai Beach Resort is not super-glitzy five star, but it's very nice. The rooms are clean, attractive, and comfortable; nice pool; central location. You'll have a great time.
