Yes, a month on Kauai is uncalled for but I am not complaining or ungrateful. I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy Hawaii, and I do not take it for granted for a moment.I will be happy to post a trip report when I return.

Lisa, A lot of people do not like to stay on the CocoCoast due to the fact that it's not as "beautiful" as Pville or Poipu. A lot of the island's population lives in this area and it gets traffic jams too. We enjoy the centrality of the location.
The Islander has it's quirks and that's one thing we like about it. It IS right on the beach. It is also away from the highway. We have had some people get an o'front room and then complain about the noise from the ocean! No room service but a lot of good restaurants within walking distance to the place.
We've met a lot of interesting people at The Sand Bar that we stay in touch w/ throughout the year. Good mixture of locals and tourists. Locals are very friendly when it comes to giving recs on restaurants, hikes, etc.
Bell service spotty at best. Maid service is very good but you never know when they will be there. Early as 8:30, late as 3:00pm but always a good job.
No elavators so if you get a room on the 3rd floor, hope you are in shape if you brought a lot of luggage!
Some people have complained about bugs but the worst we've seen in our 11 stays are some wispy type ants on the wet bar after we let the Kalua drip on it. Some geckos and grass hoppers have been know to suddenly appear too. But, it's Hawaii! Hang loose and go buy some sealable baggies or Tupperware at Safeway. Wet bar, micro wave and fridge in o'front rooms. A/C too.Good cable TV and phone system. People loved my customized voicemail mssg.

Rooms are large. No tub, shower stall only. Great lanais if you get o'front.
Parking is sometimes a prob when the island is crowded...like over New Years but you just park at The Coconut Marketplace and walk over.

I think Aston's website may have a virtual tour of the place. Any other info, feel free to drop me a line.

Brenda: I'd kill for even an "uncalled for" month on Kauai. Go! Enjoy the guilt and make sure you have a great time so you can post a great trip report and make me want to go over in June!
Mahalo,
Kal

Hey, Kal -

Great trip report! I, too, printed it out for our upcoming trip - only 16 more days 'til Kauai. Isn't it amazing that it only gets better year after year. Some of our friends question how we can go to Kauai annually, but until we tire of it (never), we will continue to do so. Mahalo for all the updates and greatinfo you pass our way each year. Let us know when those pics are available. You could never look like Iz - even on a very bad food and drink day!!

Karen

Who was the masseuse that you used? I would love a name and phone number. My boyfriend and I are going to be on Kauai during Valentine's Day and I would love to treat him to a massage!
