Fabulous photos Songdoc! It's been years since we last visited Hawaii. Maybe it's time...

I was last in Hawaii (Oahu) November 2019... blissfully unaware of what 2020 would bring. Hoping we may all be free to travel there safely again soon :-)

Melnq8: So nice hearing from you!
Suze: <Hoping we may all be free to travel there safely again soon >. AMEN!!! |

If you are asking me (the OP), I live on Kauai. I have called it home for four years and I am happier than I even hoped I could be. We are the only island that still has a mandatory quarantine (negative test; 3 days of quarantine in a designated "bubble resort"; then another negative test) OR a 10-day quarantine. Therefore, we have very few tourists -- and even fewer cases of COVID. It is devastating for the tourist-based economy, but bliss for those who enjoy almost-empty beaches, no traffic, and a resurgence of wildlife. Hanalei feels like a ghost town. I took these pix during this afternoon's walk ... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...872b7713e.jpeg Rainbow Eucalyptus tree https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...ed370f76a.jpeg Lily |
Update
Just saw this from newsletter I get.(Hurray!!)
”The latest news from Kauai is that the island will rejoin the statewide 'Safe Travels' program, beginning April 5, 2021. Hawaii Governor Ige must still approve the Kauai Mayor's request, but we believe this will almost certainly occur. The inter-island rules would also likely change and the 'resort bubble' program would theoretically end on April 5th according to the latest news. We'll update you accordingly once this is formally approved by Governor Ige. In the meantime, until April 5th, the Kauai Enhanced Movement Quarantine (EMQ) 'Resort Bubble' program continues to be the only option for direct trans-Pacific travelers who want to visit Kauai.” |
CaliNurse: YES! We're just hoping it does not cause a spike in cases. Next week, vaccinations will be available to those 70 and over. But it could still be two or more months before the general public is eligible.

Nice pics! Wish I could go there! Been to Maui and Oahu but still haven't see Kauai!
