Kauai - North coast

Hi. I'm wondering if there are any resorts to stay at on the north coast of Kauai other than the Princeville hotel (which is unaffordable). My husband and I like the "resort feel" with service, pool, beach access, etc. We're interested in staying near Princeville or Hanalei, but it seems like there are only condos - timeshares in that area other than that one resort. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

Isn't there a place next door to Princeville called Hanalei Bay Resort? They have condos but they also have regular rooms.

Yes...it's not far from the Princeville and has fabulous views of Bali Hai. Never stayed there but love the grounds and the Bali Hai restaurant.

Hi Lurielittle,

Just want to add my two cents--my husband and I stayed at Hanalei Bay Resort as part of our honeymoon last June. It looked great, but unfortunately it was a disaster. Our first room was filthy and when we moved to the second room (on a higher floor), there were MANY bugs in the room and the walls are very thin. Drinks were not allowed at the pool (I guess you need a special liquor license for this) and the staff was not helpful at all.

Our travel agency actually refunded our money for this hotel when we got home because we checked out early to stay at the Sheraton in Poipu.

On a positive note, the north shore is really beautiful and hopefully others will be able to give good suggestions about where to stay!!

We too didn't enjoy Hanalei Bay Resort at all. Look up my post from about a year ago to read the awful review we gave it.

We loved the Hanalei Bay Resort. From what we've seen and read I think the privately owned condos are much nicer and in better locations than the rooms the hotel books. Makes sense as I understand the resort is trying to sell the units that the best ones will go first. This is a very large and spread out resort- location very important. The unit we stayed in was a bargain - a fantastic unit with breathtaking views of ocean and Bali Hai. It had a second hotel style unit attached for under $100.00/night which also looked very nice. Same view and shares the beach with the Princeville for a quarter the price.
