Kaua`i - Fern Grotto closed
Due to rock falls and potential hazards to visitors, the State has closed the Fern Grotto to visitors, pending inspection:

Thank you AuntieM. You are a true jewel. Your posts are always so informative. I really hope that I have the pleasure of running into you in the near future. Also, I promise to listen to your station while we are on island. If it wasn't for you I would have to listen to posters like the K9 Klub and then I would end up on Kahoolawe or (heaven forbid) Maui.

jamaltay, didn't you know? auntiem is the resident chief of the K9's! She's just nicer than Kal and Billyboy!
|
I think Kal and Bill are medicated and meditating ... ohm

What radio station is home to the wise and wonderful Auntie? We are going to be in Kauai in 10 days and would love to tune in while we're there.
|
Thanks for the heads up. We just booked a trip for June. Do you think it will be opened by then?

Nobody is nicer than our Billyboy...and while I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting our Kal, I am fully aware that none of us can match his twisted wit <wave to Kal & Billyboy!> 8-) SnowDriftRefugee: I'm one of the many DJs on KKCR-FM, this state's ONLY full-powered community radio station. All-volunteer, we offer a very broad spectrum of music, news, talk shows, etc. You can listen online, too: www.kkcr.org janieanderson: Newspaper reports that they expect to have inspection completed within 3 weeks. Those results will dictate when/if the grotto reopens. Not to worry -- there are plenny other things to keep you busy on Kaua`i. :-) |
Thanks auntie...and...what's so awful about Maui?
...I need another little yellow pill....ohm....ahhhh -Bill |
Is the abbreviated form of twisted wit a "twit"? :-?
Auntie M on the radio is sunshine in your ear! ((#)) 8-) We listened to her on our way to the airport on the way home. :`( :'( Soothing way to end another great trip to The #ellhole of the Pacific. Sometimes we'll hit "listen live" because they have a rather enjoyable eclectic playlist and some good local discussions. Nothin' mo bettah' than cruising home after a hard day up in Hanalei and tuning in and hearing some New Orleans/Zydeco music with the island scent is in the air. |
Was the Grotto closed before or after Kal's visit?
|
Kal don't hula!!!!
We went the first time over in '89 and then post Iniki to see the change. Haven't been back since. It was an excellent place to accentuate my beautiful singing voice tho. =D>=D>=D>=D> <-----happy tourists! |
Thanks for the head's up Auntie M, it is really appreciated. We do not go back until September so hopefully it will be open again by then. Although the only time we did visit the grotto we liked to boat ride more.
|
anyone know if the Kaui kayaks that go by fern grotto can still get through?
|
janie,
I don't see how they can close the entire river? You may just to be able to stop at the FG but should be able to paddle away. Mahalo! |
Wailua River is open to boaters and kayakers -- but no one can go inside or close to the Fern Grotto itself, for now.
|
I'm tuned in now all the way up here in Michigan - instantly transported back to Kauai. It's a keeper - Thanks for the link!
