Katz's Deli in New York City

Has anyone eaten at Katz's recently? I have friends visiting next weekend that want to go and I haven't been there in a few years. Just wondering if it's still good, etc. I thought I read something about it closing, but I may be confusing that with Ratner's. Any info please?

Katz's is open, Ratner's is closed.

Katz's is still open and serving up the pastrami. But don't ask for mayo!!

Katz isn't kosher and mayo isn't dairy.

Phillip, you are probably thinking about Second Avenue Deli which is kosher. They do serve mayo because it is made with eggs and oil.

not eating mayo with pastrami has nothing to do with being dairy which (it isn't)or kosher or not--it's just a combination that is incongruous to many, like having grape jelly on a tuna sandwich.<BR>Hot pastrami with mustard... I'd choose 2nd avenue deli, but Katz is still there if you want it (Ratners, gone now, was a jewish dairy restaurant--blintzes, nion rolls, etc--no deli meats)

Actually the mayo reference is a joke among New Yorkers. As xxx said pastrami and mayo don't go together. The joke being that the owners of Katz's won't even have mayo in the store (should some unknowing tourist ask for it).
