Katmai bears..trip report and photos
Hi everyone, we are finally starting to get some of our Alaska hikes out on
the web. We now have Katmai-Brooks Falls up on our site http://www.naturalbornhikers.com . It is listed under Most Recent Hikes. If you have ever seen photos of bears fishing for salmon at a waterfall, this is probably where the images were from. Great place and excellent wildlife!! Hope you enjoy. The NBH Crew |
Where did you stay?
|
We stayed in Brooks Camp.

Wow!! Thank you for sharing your photos. Thought for a second that I was looking at National Geographic. What lens(es) were you using (read, how close were you to those bears)?
|
Wow, what incredible photos. I have now read your posting and appreciate you sharing your experiences. Couldn't resist checking out some of the other photos. Great website. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics. I'm jealous - I love bears and would like to go there sometime. I bookmarked your site. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone! Glad that my report might help someone out. Thanks also for the kind compliments on my photography..that makes my day!! On the platform you are about 25 feet away from the bears...sometimes closer, just depends on where they position themselves. I was shooting with a 100-400mm lens, but a kind gentleman let me use his 600mm lens for a few shots!!! I couldn't believe his generosity...thanks John!! If anyone out there is thinking of visiting Katmai--do it!! It is incredible, and please feel free to check out our website. We have tons of photos and a lengthy write-up about Brooks Camp and the Brooks area. Thanks again everyone.

My pleasure dfrostnh! Glad you enjoyed the journal. Thanks for checking it out! ;-)

Wow! What a great trip! I loved your photos and your report. My favorite photo has to be the one with the 3 bears (7th row, 2nd picture) but you got so many good ones. So, would you camp again or stay in the lodge?
|
Thanks sundowner! Yeah, those cubs were so cute! I would camp again, but if I could get a cabin I think I would...they looked really comfy and warm ;-)
