Kapalua Bay Hotel
Read somewhere that construction of condos near the resort dominate the views from the rooms with cranes and port-a-potties. Does anyone have first-hand experience ?

Check a previous post I submitted titled Maui in August... Posters confirmed construction at both Kapalua Bay and the Wailea Renaissance, unfortunately my top two choices.

One poster indicated that Kapalua Bay was very forthright about noise levels, and when I called I found them to be similarly honest. They did mention there would be no construction over the weekend (the bulk of our stay) so we decided to stay there anyway. We got a great rate through United Mileage Plus (50% off with a Frequent Flier voucher for 4 nights). I didn't specifically ask about views, but we have an ocean view room so I'm not too worried about cranes/port-a-potties in my way! The construction is next door.

I will be heading there from August 3rd through the 8th so check my trip report in mid-August for a full report, or feel free to e-mail me directly. Thanks!

Just returned from five nights at Kapalua Bay. Don't, repeat, don't worry about construction.

We requested (and received) a room away from the construction, a partial ocean view. We saw and heard nothing construction related until we were at the beach. Even then, I had to make a mental note to myself to "notice" it so I could reply to this post. When I looked up from my inflatable raft on the ocean, I did hear some construction noise - but in the range of your next-to next door neighbor mowing the lawn. Nothing at all bothersome, and with the sounds of ocean waves barely noticeable.

Regarding view, any of the ocean or partial ocean rooms should not face construction. And if you request garden away from construction, they should be able to confirm that over the phone.

You should be fine.

By the way, we absolutely LOVED the hotel and would highly recommend it. If you eat at the Bay Club, go for a sunset view. We ate later and felt it was a major mistake for the prices we paid.

We stayed at the Kapalua Bay Hotel and the Renaissance just this past April. We knew about the construction and requested a room as far away from it as possible. We had no problem at either place - heard nothing from our room. The construction at Kapalua is right next to the beach but the noise level was never significant enough to bother us. I certainly would not want to be next to the construction sites at either hotel so be sure to make the request and you should be fine. They are both outstanding properties.

Stayed in Kapalua Bay Hotel at the beginning of the month.

DO request a room AWAY from the construction site!!!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough. EVEN on the weekend!

Ignorant of this, we booked an ocean-view room, and what we got was an ocean-port-a-potties-view room. Having just arrived from the beautiful Kauai, this made us extra mad.

We called the front desk and they said the earliest time they could switch us to another room would be a day later. Since we would be checking out 2 days later to Hana anyway, we put up with the noise (Saturday and Sunday) and more unpleasantly, the sight.

We came back after a night at Hotel Hana (really great - see my other post) and got what we requested - a partial-ocean view room away from the construction site.

All in all, we didn't really care for this hotel. Expensive, the rooms were old (although the bathroom was modern and had 2 sinks) and the door looked insecure.
Loved their welcome fruit-basket though. =P

Kat
