Kanab Sights and Routes
 

Hoping we can get some good advice from travelers who have visited Kanab or from someone who knows it well. We will have three nights in Kanab, mid-October. We will use one full day to drive down to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and back. Is Route 67 to the North Rim paved? What would be recommended visits for the next full day? We are older, won't be hiking, but love the outdoors and natural sights. We will already have visited Bryce/ Zion and afterward will be headed south toward Phoenix. On that topic which would be the easier driving route to head south from Kanab, route 89 through Page, or alternate 89? We don't like "white knuckle" driving routes, heights with no guard rails, etc. We will have a rental car and need all paved roads. Thanks for all advice.

I think what you want is Kenab?

Both routs are pretty tame...89a is a bit more scenic.
It is Kanab, not Kenab.

If you are going to Phoenix anyway, you should hit the Grand Canyon on the way. You could even stay a night there. Use your extra day to see Sedona on your way down to Phoenix. Sedona is beautiful that time of year and there really isn't anything to see or do in Kanab. In fact take two of your days from Kanab and use them in Sedona instead!

And a rout is a disorderly retreat, or so my DH was taught in ROTC.

I agree about seeing the Grand Canyon--spectacular.

If you click on my username you will see a trip report for Kanab. I love that town! Be sure to eat at the Rocking V!! We liked Best Friends, Pipe Spring NM. You could also go over to Page to see Antelope Canyon.

The route to the north rim is paved and not spectacular until you get there. As suggested, I would take 89A to 89 then head west on 64 and check out the views of the south rim of GC on the way to Phoenix.

Thank you for your advice. I should mention that we have visited the G.C.South rim many times. We have visited 25+ National Parks and countless National Monuments. We have visited Sedona and Page on previous trips and will have already visited Sedona again for two days at the beginning of this circle route. We are purposefully visiting Kanab for three days, looking for new natural sights. Maybe this is a mistake. We enjoyed Page a few years ago, but I understand the water level is low and a boat trip again to the natural bridge may not be possible. What are current conditions on Lake Powell?
