Kamaole Sands
 

We are planning to spend 6 days in Maui. We are considering staying at the Kamaole Sands. Any info would help. Thankyou

I stayed there last year. It is located across the street from a nice beach park(though can be too windy in the p.m.). The grounds/pool area were nice. The Kihei area is kind of built up and not the most attractive area on Maui, but it is convenient to Wailea, the airport, and the roads to Haleakala and Hana, and restaurants/grocery store.

Hi Ed - we stayed there about 4 years ago and thought the property was very nice. We had a beautifully furnished condo and it suited our needs perfectly. It is true that the beach across the way is windy in the afternoon - however once we found some lovely little beaches further south we tending to avoid the closer one and just go to those. We found the area to be very convenient and yet quiet at night. Be sure to go to the Hula Grill for lunch - It is at Whaler's village - it was our last day in Maui and we had lunch outside with our feet in the sand - heaven ! ! Let me know if you need more info.

The unattractive thing about Kihei, according to some, is that there are a lot of condos and strip malls, and the area was built sort of helter-skelter, and not well-planned compared to the more upscale areas like Wailea and Kaanapali Beach. But it is very nice, with gorgeous beaches, clean, many excellent restaurants and shops - I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's just not ritzy, but perfectly adequate. The Kamaole Sands has a very good reputation - are you renting from Aston (or a big company like that) or from an individual owner? Have a wonderful trip!

Hi Joseph, We have an agent that said it was anice place for the price. Were planning to spend 6 days there then go over to Kauai to a condo called Plantation Hale. It"s located in the Coconut Plantaton area. We haven"t recieved any replies yet. Were hoping somebdy can give us some info. THANKS

I agree with Joseph regarding what I found unattractive about Kihei. If I go to Maui and want to be more on a budget I stay in Kihei, but I prefer Kaanapali- but accommodations there tend to be pricier. <BR> <BR>Ihave stayed in the "coconut plantation area"(Kapaa) area on Kauai, at the Kauai Coconut Beach Hotel, the Plantation Hale was on the same grounds,it appeared rather basic, but you will probably spend most of your time seeing the sites so it might not matter. The beaches there are not the best Kauai has to offer, but you can easily access better beach areas, such as Lydgate State Park, or go to the south shore(Poipu is my favorite area, but again accomodations are pricier). <BR> <BR>There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the Coconut Plantation area.It really is centrally located for exploring.

Ed, <BR>I stayed at the Kamaole Sands this past October when I was attending a wedding at the Four Seasons. The property is very well-kept, and is a good value for your money. If you are renting a car, you can go to ritzier areas if you get tired of Kihei. <BR> <BR>I'd also recommend the Sands of Kahana in Kahana- also a great value for your money. I stayed there in the summer of 98 and will be returning this summer.

Thanks Tara, Everybody been really helpful. It gets confusing going thru all the travel books. It"s good to talk to people thats allready been there.

We just got back from our agent and decided to book at the Outriggers Kiahuna Plantation on Kauai and at The Whaler on Maui. thanks again for all the info on the other places. Any new info on the places were going would be helpful. ED

I am not familar with the hotel on Kauai. Last year I stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, and I believe the Whaler was the property next door.It looked decent from the outside! <BR> <BR>The Kaanapali area has more of a resort feel to it, and the beach is nice at this end ( I think nicer than the beach farther down in front of the Hyatt). You can snorkel at Black Rock which is right down the beach near the Sheraton.Lahaina is so close, and I think I remember there were shuttles to there so you don't have to drive (parking can be difficult in the evening, for free anyways).

The Kamaole Sands does'nt have near the charm that Hale Kamaole has next door. Hale is cheaper and also has unobstructted views of the bay via Kam 3 park. If you like check my brothers condo webpage. It'll give you a good idea of the area. Enjoy Maui!!! <BR>http://home.earthlink.net/~domkeyes/
