Kahului - restaurant close to airport

We will be landing on Saturday at 7:30pm in Maui and have to pick someone up on their 10:30 flight so don't want to drive to our condo and then back again. We'll probably be hungry after the flight, so we're looking for a nice restaurant to pass the time. Looking for a resturant or perhaps a nice bar that serves supper that will be open until 10 pm though.

Probably the nicest restaurant is Mamma's Fish House. It's really expensive, but very good. It's about 15 minutes away from the airport. They have a website if you want to check prices and hours of operation.

Another great restaurant on that side of the island is the Haliimaile General Store (see: http://www.bevgannonrestaurants.com). We also like Mama's Fish Market. If you do one for dinner while waiting for your friends, you'll have to try the other for either lunch or dinner when you're on this side of the island again.

Mama's is VERY expensive; be warned. Might not be the nice-restuarant-to-kill-a-couple-of-hours" that you are looking for; more of a reservations far in advance, dress nicely, and view the sunset, price be dammed...

Manana Garage in Kahului is a well regarded restaurant preferred by locals. Rachael Ray reviewed it on her $40/day show. It's less than 5 miles from the airport.

Follow the recommendation by LisaRex123 -- Manana Garage a great little place. Here's more info:

Love Mama's Fish House -- but reservations are mandatory, it's pricey (some say "not worth it"; I disagree), and service is of the slow-paced, island style. Save it for another lunch or dinner:

Love Hali`imaile General Store -- but it's about 20 minutes from the airport. And though pricey, you get your money's worth with their exemplary service and FABULOUS food <burp!>. For us, no visit to Maui is complete without at least one meal here -- sometimes, two.

Entrees at Mama's Fish House are $50 and up. If you don't mind that, the food and ambiance are top notch.
For more reasonable prices, I agree that Manana Garage is good.

Manana Garage is a great suggestion--nice restaurant, bar with pretty good appetizers, indoor and outdoor seating, not totally expensive. Only 5 minutes from the airport. That would be my first choice. If you're not into Latino cuisine, there's an IHOP, a Thai, a Chinese, and a Subway at the Maui Mall nearby. There's also an Italian place called Marco's right outside the airport.

If you are first landing at 7:30 pm and have to be back by 10:30 you will probably not have time for Mama's or the General Store. In any case I would save those for a night when you will not be tired from a long flight.
We fly in every year and arrive around lunch time. Our first stop after leaving the airport is Marco's for lunch. It is an upscale diner with a decent bar and although there is a good selection of Italian foods it really is a more generic restaurant. They are open late so you will not have a problem and it is easy to get back to the airport. The food is decent (certainly not the quality of Mama's or the General Store) and the proces are also reasonable.
