Kaanapali or Wailea??

Honeymooning in Maui in mid-September... all things considered where should I stay? Kaanapali or Wailea?? Next which resorts are recommended. It seems like a harder decision on which resort if I decide on Kaanapali. The Wailea resorts seem more obvious.

Pete,

Last July I stayed at the Outrigger Wailea Resort on Maui for five nights. I had the best time! Very beautiful resort, and a great luau on their property as well. Wailea is a prettier area in general, I believe. If you have a rental car, it will be easy to get to Kaanapali for activities.

Happy planning!

Sandi
Please read the many prior posts on this topic. Of course, it comes down to personal preference, with Kaanapali generally favored by those who enjoy its proximity to the many restaurants and shops in the nearby Lahaina/Kapalua area and Wailea favored by those for its generally better beaches and less congested feel. If Kaanapali is under consideration, I strongly believe that the Hyatt is head and shoulders above any other resort on the strip. Of course, Kapalua offers some excellent alternatives, if you prefer that area .

Absolute no brainer...Go Wailea and the Four Seasons if in your budget. Don't miss Willie K performing on Monday nights at Hapa's BrewHaus in Kihei. Incredible guitarist!!!

Go to Frommers.com and go to the ask the expert about Hawaii message board, there is an excellent post about just this subject, explained better than I have seen anywhere else. It is posted just like yours. It helped me to finally answer that "nagging" question.

We have had the same problem and we've been there numerous times. So what we do now is go for 10 days and split the time between the two. They are both awesome areas. JMHO.
