Just wondering?
I saw someone's post recently where they called about $250 per night a "moderate" price for a hotel room.

What do you all consider to be
Low?
Moderate?
High?

I have a hard time justifying almost $2,000/wk. on a room when there is still airfare and food, etc., to pay for.
Depends on where you are. $250 in NY or London is reasonable. In Oklahoma City, I think not.

It definitely depends on where you are. However, in most major cities and resort areas, I consider anything under around $100 per night for a double to be relatively inexpensive, and around $100-150 "moderate." Over $200 is expensive to me.

These terms are variable depending on the destination: $250 is accurately considered moderate in New York and lots of resort destinations, for example, whereas in other places there wouldn't even BE a $250 room. How much I am willing to pay for accomodations varies with the location, too. In Paris I can be perfectly happy with an $80 room, because I truly will not be spending much time in it, and there are lots of clean and serviceable, well-located hotels at that price point. If I'm going to the beach, I am willing to spring for a luxury condo, because I will be cooking and spending time there and it's fun to play "house" in nice surroundings. I can have a $40 hotel room in Mexico City, but am happy paying $200 to $400 at resorts in Mexico to ensure I can relax in nice surroundings.

In Boston any room under $140 is definitely low. Moderate is up to $300 or so. Luxury is above that.

This depends slightly on the season - worse in the summer and fall, better in February.

Why? It's an expensive city and everything costs the hotels more. Why is it an expensive city? Supply and demand. THere's not a lot of Boston and it's a wonderful city where a lot of people want to be.

Just wondering?

I'm just wondering why someone would use such a vague title.

Once again, it's VERY HELPFUL TO BE AS SPECIFIC as possible in the header

CJ,

Using Hawaii as an example, $100 or less is inexpensive to me, $150 is moderate, and over $200 is expensive. I try to get good discounts at expensive hotels - like a $450 room at the Renaissance Wailea for $225 on the Entertainment Card.

Much more than $200 a night makes me a little queasy, though I know in certain cities, I will have to go to $300/night, at least, (London) for what I want - but I don't like to!

Here on the mainland, my favorite "moderate" hotel is the Hampton Inn chain. They are fabulous for the money!
