Just won my bid on Luxurylink and I am going to Medicino!

Just booked ny airfare and will be staying at the MaCallum Hose B/B. We will be flying into San Francisco, staying 1 night in Sonoma. Then we will have 4 days in Medicino, please fill me in on all the cool stuff to do! We are foodies, and we like the outdoors hiking. Definitely like to sip wine too! PJ

pj, Congratulations! I just spent the last 3 days in the area and had a fantastic time. The weather gods smiled on us the whole time. There are so many wonderful places to choose from. I would recommend each of the places we ate; Queenies, in Elk, a fantastic diner where Lynn, the chef/owner has created a 5 star menu (fresh, homemade, creative foods) in a super casual environment. Sharons near Fort Brag had fantastic seafood and a wonderfully unique slaw salad with a real bite. For a special dinner out, try the Albion River Inn.

While you are there, be sure to take Highway 128 inland through the Navarro River Forest to the Alexander Valley. Literally dozens of wineries await you for tasting. Right now the area is beautiful with the vines beginning to leaf out, the hills still green and unsurpassed coastal views.

Have a fantastic time. Check out http://p.vtourist.com/1375022.jpg for a peek at the views in store for you!

I forgot to mention Eggheads in Ft. Brag for breakfast/brunch. I had the eggs benedict with crab and a champagne hollandaise. OMG!

I recommend that you take 101 to 128 and then get to the coast that way. You'll get plenty of coastal driving on your 4 days there. Save yourself some time and stress. 128 is really pretty too. Curvy but beautiful. You'll love the vineyards along the way.

Ohhhh, Grasshopper is so right about
Quennies! While you are in Elk, wander over to the Greenwood Pier Inn-other than having a neat gift shop-the views
are supertacular! I ditto her idea about 128. I would add a trip to Pt. Arena lighthouse (especially if they are giving night or full mooon tours).
My favorites for hiking are Van Damme
state Park which has a 5 mi loop trail
that goes along and accross the Little River and just north of Mendocino at Russian Gulch there's a 6.5 mile trail that includes a 40'waterfall.
South of Mendocino a scrumptuos meal can be had in Gualala
at Pangea (reservations a must).
North of Mendocino in Ft.Bragg you might enjoy the Mendo Bistro.
Enjoy your trip!

It's been years since we've been, but we loved Cafe Beaujolias in Mendocino, both a wonderful breakfast and dinner. They had a cookbook that I still use on occasion. The coast is just beautiful, enjoy yourself.

This is the first I've heard of Luxury Link. Just out of curiosity, how much was your winning bid? It sounds like a neat site.

Check out Luxurylink.com, there are packages being auctioned off for places all over the world.
My particular package is for the MaCallum House in Medocino. mY PACKAGE includes 3 nights in a luxury suite, bottle of vintage wine, buffet breakfast every morning, wine and appetizers every afternoon, 100.00 gift certificate for dinner, use of bikes, taxes. I paid 485.00 plus 15 fee to luxuy link. The room I booked is normally 275.00 a night. So I am thrilled with my winning bid! PJ
