Electricity rocks!

welcome back!!!! must have been hot back then!

FainaAgain -
My husband didn't get home until 11 this morning. He was stranded in Manhattan. I walked back to Queens. 11 miles. Consequently I am far to tired for a romantic side. ;) |
For the first time in the five years since we moved to west Jersey, we weren't the ones without electricity. Seemed like if the wind blew too hard we had no juice. Of course, ever since investing in a generator it seems we aren't as often without the lights. So, my sympathy to all of you who went throught this. Candlelight looses its romance quickly. Our longest time without electricity was four and one half LONG days. Yeah technology!
|
After Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and Hurricane Marilyn in 1995, we went nearly three months without electricity. It took nearly that long for the phone to come back on too.

I know this may seem like a strange question, but after spending several weeks in the Southwest (we live in the Northeast) and appreciating being able to see the stars in a way I haven't been since I was a kid (due to all our lights), I'm wondering if people took notice of that. I recognize that it was hardly uppermost in folks' minds as they dealt with uncertainty, worries about loved ones, extremely long walks home, no cooling, water, etc., etc., but once those anxieties settled did people notice?

Re:darkness, I thought how it might have felt if I were out on the range in Wyoming .. SO dark!! |

EastEileen-
It's been very hazy and overcast here in the northeast, so I don't think the blackout areas saw many stars. |
We went without power for 2 weeks in the winter during an ice storm, luckily gas stove oven and waterheater we could cook, shower and .......we were warm, oh the kids were out side sliding around enjoying no school.
