Just Returned from NY

I just returned from my first visit to NY. Thanks to everyone for the helpful hints on places to eat and things to do. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to return. I want to say how wonderful the people of NY are. Everyone was so gracious to us, and made us feel very welcome. Everyone we asked was very willing to give directions or helpful tips. Thanks New Yorkers - you are great!

Ann, I'm so glad that you enjoyed your visit! If you have a chance, could you comment on where you stayed, or some of the activities that you enjoyed? There is nothing like "first-hand" experiences to help other travelers. Again, I'm glad you had a nice time!

Amy,
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt as a result of a bid on Priceline.com. It was fine. Our room was clean, large, and ready when we arrived. Everyone at the hotel was extremely nice. We ate at several good restaurants including several recommendations off this website for the Blue Water Grill. It was fantastic. Some of the places we went were the Met. Museum of Art, Empire State Bldg., Rockafeller Center, Statue of Liberty, and Central Park. We enjoyed each of these. We also visited Ground Zero. We felt we must visit as a tribute to the people who suffered so as a result of 9/11. I must say it was very emotional. The policemen and firefighters in the area were extremely nice and seemed appreciative of the prayers and support of the people. However, we only stayed few minutes and did not feel comfortable taking pictures. We wanted to respect the private grief that these workers must face everyday.

I hope these few accounts of our trip are helpful. As I said earlier, the people in New York are wonderful.
Ann

Ann:
I am glad you enjoyed your trip! We love our visitors! Did you grace our wonderful subway system? Always a bit daunting the first time.

Yes, I did ride the subway and found it very useful. I have used the subway in other US cities and in Europe, and found NY very easy to use.
Ann

I am visting NYC over theMemorial Week-end; thanks for the information. Can you tell me where the Blue Water Grill is, what are the prices like? I guess it is a seafood place? Thanks!

Blue Water Grill is on the west side of Union Square Park (at 16th St). It has a lot of seafood, but other things too. It's very good. I went there during restaurant week last year (restaurantweek.com) and paid $20 for a nice 3-course lunch...of course it's normally more expensive than that! Look it up on zagat.com for prices.
