Just returned from Maui,questions ??

I've just returned from 2 weeks at the Maui Marriott and would be glad to help with any questions that I can.

Charlie,

What did you think of the Marriott? We are trying to decide on a hotel or condo in Maui. Did you like the area the hotel is in?
What activities did you do that you'd recommend?
The Marriott is in a great location and a very nice hotel. The Hyatt is also a good hotel.

Hi JC,
The Marriot is in a great location,I thought that the hotel was underrated and found it to be very nice, and I might add,a good value. The staff was friendly, rooms generous in size, grounds and pool area were clean and attractive. To be honest JC,unless you're a super picky person,I believe that all the resorts along that stretch of beach are quite nice and I'd have no problem staying at any of them but the Marriot is the best value.I must say that after listening to the Marriott Luau for fourteen nights DO NOT ATTEND,the Old Lahaina Luau is heads above any of the others.I highly recommend the Trilogy trip to Lanai(first class operation).I know that everyone says to drive up to Haleakala for the sunrise, well my lazy butt didn't get there til 9AM and it was still a sight to behold, any time is a good time as long as you avoid the cloud cover. The ride to Hana is worthwhile and I recommend that you drive ALL the way around, the rugged scenery on the back slopes of Haleakala are a must see.The complete circuit of the road to Hana starting and ending in Kaanapali took me 11 hours(all senic stops and lunch at the Hana Ranch included). The north shore road from Kapalua to Wailuku is also a nice ride(like a mini road to Hana)and worth the 2/3 hour trek. The Iao Needle is beautiful but I was disappointed that there is little land to explore as the park is small and surrounded by private property.I hope that I've been of some help, have a great trip.Adios !!!!!

Charlie, can you tell me more about your day trip to Lanai. I have read that it is not a good swimming area.
Hi Lee,
Keep in mind that swimming is just one aspect of the Trilogy trip to Lanai. The catamaran ride is great with nice views of the rugged coast line of Lanai and just before you arrrive on Lanai the catamaran is paced by a friendly pod of dolphins,a real treat.Upon arrival you have the option of taking a tour of the island or going directly to the beach for water sports or games etc.I thought that the tour was a waste(not much to see)and I enjoy snorkeling/swimming and should have passed on the tour and gone straight to the beach.Swimming(sorry, that was your question)is fine, snorkeling is good but like most beaches in Hawaii depends on the surf conditions. The day that I was there the surf made for a tricky entrance, exit into the water(you had to time the waves or get knocked on your butt). As a whole, Trilogy offers a first class all day excursion at a premium cost but if swimming/snorkeling only is your main objective you may want to take a half day trip to Molokini crater and not risk poor surf conditions.Hope this helps !!
