Just Returned: Big Island and Maui

I had about five days on each, although most on the Big Island was business. If I were to compare the two, my preference would be the former. Far less developed and wonderful sites with fewer visitors. The Mauna Kea Resort was nothing short of stunning. More European in its feel with architecture reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright. I would return in a heart beat.

While Maui was quite beautiful, I found the developments somewhat distracting, with Kaanapali far too developed for my taste, and the Westin a poor choice, particularly as its waterfalls were being pressure washed at the time. Kapalua and Napili (farther north), while having their fair share of resorts, were more tranquil and relaxing. My preference in the future will be to stay on Napili and drive to Black Rock for a few hours of snorkeling.

Just one opinion. Happy travels.
