SmackDaddy,

If you are truly looking for an off-the beaten-path-yet-still-fabulous place I would suggest St. George Island in North Florida. It's about an hour and a half outside of Tallahassee and has the most beautiful white sand beaches you've ever seen. It is not overdeveloped and has beautiful homes for rental. There is a website but I can't recall it. If you have a search engine just type in St. George Island and you should get the information you need.

I'm not married but I had the most romantic weekend of my life there with an old boyfriend. We happened to be there when there was a full moon and I'll never forget having just eaten a wonderful seafood dinner then sitting in his arms on the beach as the full moon illuminated the water.

Anyway, I hope you consider it. Good luck.

Go for Maui! If our kids can survive the 10 hour plane ride from Toronto with a 1 1/2 hr. stop in Vancouver, I'm sure you'll be fine! As soon as you smell that fragrant Hawaiian air and see the ocean, it's all worth it and that long plane ride is quickly forgotten.

Chris,
Would love to hear an update from you!
Have you decided on the "ideal" spot?

SmackDaddy,

I grew up in Monterey and think that's a great detination. Plenty of natural beauty, romantic B&Bs, ocean views, day trips (Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Hearst Castle). Lots of local activities too: golf at Pebble Beach, the outstanding Monterey Aquarium, Canery Row (ever read Steinbeck? He's from the next town over), Carmel shopping, Fisherman's Wharf, biking along the beach, fantastic restaurants (try Nepenthe in Big Sur or the Sardine Factory on Cannery Row or the Old Bath House on Lover's Point). Consider the Seven Gables Inn (featured in a VISA commercial). Amazing views. It's a B&B-type inn. They just don't take American Express! Also, the Inn at Spanish Bay or Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley are sublime.

Congratulations!!

James

Hi!

We went to San Fran, stayed at the Triton Hotel, and then to Maui for our honeymoon - it was fantastic!
Also I've heard that Montreal/Quebec City is very romantic?

My alltime favorite romantic local is Greenwood Pier Inn in Elk, California (Hwy 1, just south of Mendocino). They're nicest rooms are a bit pricey, but it is a beautiful location and totally worth it. They're website is www.greenwoodpierin.com

Sea Castle North, Sea Castle South and Cliff House are the nicest rooms. They're large, right on the cliff overlooking the ocean, private ocean-view patios, lofts with large bathtubs-for-two, also overlooking the ocean. They bring your breakfast to your door. They also have a little cafe on the premises, as well as a general store and a home/garden store so you don't even have to leave the property if you don't want to. There is a nearby path to the beach below and Mendocino is only a 15 minute drive or so away. The weather is usually pretty nice that time of year, but even when it's stormy it's still romantic -- imagine soaking together in the nice hot bathtub, by candlelight, while looking out at the stormy ocean below (*sigh*).

We went to Maui (kia lani on walia) and Kauai (Hyatt at Poipu). You can't go wrong with this trip. Don't bother breaking it up on the west coast. We spent one night in Waikik and was the only mistake we made. Kauai is the best 1st stop if you need to unwind after all the planning and excitement of the wedding. take the ride to Princeville as a day or 1/2 day trip. Maui has more to offer in terms of activities. I think the Walia side of Maui is little more romantic. Take the road to hahna as a day trip. also, coast from a volcano crater (haliakala) to the sea, and take a snorkel trip out of Lahina to molakini.
We just got back from the Canadian Rockies, which are fantastic, but early june the weather could be a little cool and some of the better trails are likely to be under much snow.

Queensland
Wine Country, CA
New Zealand
Greece - don't go to Mykonos or any of those 'Hilton-Head' type places. Try renting a condo in after three days in Athens Ios

Hey Chris. My husband and I got married less than a year ago and we went to Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada and LOVED IT!!!! We thought it was the most beautiful place on earth. A great place to relax, but it also had things to do also. I would suggest staying in Banff at the Banff Springs Hotel. We did not stay there, but we stayed in the sister hotel, Chateau Lake Louise and loved it. You can get packages (ours was from "Delta Vacations" that actually make the trip quite affordable. I cannot wait to go back!! Let me know if you need more info.

After you look at the Maui Info section of the following website, you will know that Maui is the place for your honeymoon:

LOTS of info about Maui restaurants, hotels, activities, sights, etc, at this web site:
http://www.mauihawaii.org
(note it ends in org, not com)
