Just got back Kauai/Maui
Aloha!
Just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii. Great trip but feel bad for all the water damage. We were so fortunate. Everywhere we went, we had this little bubble of sunshine that followed us.
Others not so fortunate! Our bartender told us a guest just said his wife left him in Kauai with 4 days left of their trip - said she couldn't stand the rain anymore.
The dam broke about 2 days after we had moved to Maui. Heard the south side experienced flooding as well. The Tunnel of Trees road was closed because big hunks of pavement had buckled. Haven't heard of much more since we have been back.
Fortunate enough to take the most awesome whale watching trip out of Maui. Used PWF, went out on a cloudy day in the morning. Narrator said we had a dream trip, in two hours we saw absolutely everything whales do! Tried to take pictures but with the time delay on my digital camera, missed most of the shots. Finally said, forget it and just watched - bought whale pictures later!
Took our "Revealed" books for both islands, and traveled everywhere - great guides! Very laid back vacation. We have been to the islands twice before so didn't feel need to go go go. Maui is very different this time around. Still beautiful but cars and more cars! Get to Lahaina early if you want to find parking. Behind Hard Rock Cafe is great public parking lot - if ticket validated by any shops, free two hour parking.
Stayed at the Mariott in Lihue (Gorgeous!)and then the Kaanapoli Beach Hotel in Maui. Older property, well maintained, great location, older group of guests - very quiet.
Important! We spent our last day in Ohahu, arrived at 10:30 am and flew out 11:00 pm that night. There are no lockers at the Honolulu airport! Delta counters and Kiosks don't open until 11:00 am and even then when we checked on our mainland flight when they did open, we could not check in as it was longer than 6 hours. Thankfully, we asked Aloha airlines if we could check baggage straight through to our home city. They said yes, but we had to sign a waiver holding them harmless if the luggage got lost since it would be longer than 12 hours before the final flight. If we had not done that, we could not have finished our sightseeing as we would have all our luggage with us. It worked out perfectly as our baggage was right with our flight.
Loved our trip, didn't hike, snorkel (beach warnings out 6 days in Maui to stay out of water)or parasail - did do our best to find best happy hours though! (Rusty Harpoon on Kaanapli Beach)!

Bebalm - I hope the weather holds out too! We have been 2 other times to Maui in March and loved the rain at night...hated the wind during the day. If it was a rainy day on Kaanapali Beach where we stay we would drive to Southern beaches like Makena and it would be sunny. I figure 10 days in March on Maui in the rain is still better than 10 days in Idaho!!!!! I hope the weather is great for both of us and I hope there are lots of Whales to see also....Aloha
72 hours until take off!!!!!
