I'll go back to TheDish's original question, and say that no, I haven't had a horrible trip with kids (yet), but there have certainly been some horrible (and memorable) moments on each trip.

When my daughter was 1 1/2 years old, we drove to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. It was a great trip for the rest of us, including our 4 1/2-year-old son. We all look forward to returning some day. But there was the hike on which my son cried most of the time (he was great on the other short hikes we took). And my daughter, while happy as a clam, ate less and less at each meal. By the last night, all she had for dinner was one tortilla chip! (She returned to normal when we got home.) The chip story is the one we retell the most.

It sounds like TheDish had a trip that she couldn't avoid, due to an obligation to attend a graduation. We'll all had events in our lives that were "must-attends," regardless of how well they went for us personally.

I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old. We have erased the word "vacation" from our vocabulary. We refer to it as "traveling". It is not a vacation in any sense of the word to travel with children so young, it's more work than staying home! But we keep going anyway...

Actually, I do have a story. We went to the Bahamas about a year and a half ago when my son was only 16 months old. We took my parents and my husband's aunt with us; the trip was their Christmas present. Well, the day after we got there (we were going for 5 nights, 6 days, if memory serves) our son came down with this puking illness, probably just a bug, whatever....but my husband and I had to take turns staying in the hotel room for the ensuing 2 1/2 days while our son was sick. Not fun. I did not expect my parents to watch him because a.) he was ill and b.) the trip was a gift for them! So, it was one of those things where we just said "Oh well..." But, believe it or not, the trip met my expectations of it. Namely, I wanted to go somewhere warm (which I did), I wanted to spend time with my family (accomplished), I wanted to have ONE night with my husband (we got it, when our son was better, my parents watched him after he was asleep one night) and I didn't want to be at work (I'm a nurse, and I wasn't...well, I wasn't at the hospital anyway!) Everything else I just had to roll with, and it was fine, really, in the end. I think a big part of it is expectations, especially when your children are young.

I thought the thread about Orlando or Las Vegas was interesting.
Dish advises someone to go to Las Vegas and save Orlando for the family vacations!

And now TheDish - you must report to Fodors headquarters for the tarring and feathering, as it appears you are the new nina - the last person on this board to have ridiculous stories invented about her by jealous busybodies.
Seriously - the color green is unbecoming on anyone.

Well I might as well put in my 2 cents worth. I have not seen a thread like this since registration. Funny I tell you. Seriously, I would consider looking into for instance Beaches Resort. I was there at Turks and Caicos and it seems the best chance, for having a nice time with a family atmosphere. I think some children, (not all) are just so use to there own routine, there own homes, that to get thrown off schedule is just to much for them. Maybe not all, but some and I guess to try and keep them on the schedule they are use to is key. They will grow up one day. One day you will look back and wish they were still babies. REally, you will. Also as some suggested, a Disney Cruise. They are more geared to families, professional babysitters, they give Mom and Dad a cell phone they can get you immediately and you can have some time with your husband for a few hours. That would be my suggestion. Good luck.

I have to admit TheDish had me going for awhile. I clicked on TheDish and pulled up her other posts. For having horrible vacations Dish, you sure travel alot with the rugrats, Hawaii, Cancun etc. The ages of your kids keep changing too. Now how old are your kids. Either Dish has way too much time on their hands or is a very clever troll.

cd-Click on TheDish name (underlined) and read all this person's posts. I am beginning to think this person is either a travel agent or a travel writer in disguise culling information for either an article or clients.

We've traveled with our kids since they were born. The easiest, by far, are beach vacations.

We have friends who, like theDish, have never had a good trip with thier kids. However, they never take thier kids out anywhere when they're home. We've been taking our kids to fun places (the zoo, parks, etc.) as well as not-so-fun for them places (museums, etc.) in our home town all along. We also take them out to eat with us and expect them to behave.

I think its unfair to expect kids who hardly ever go out to suddenly be angels on vacation, when they have to go out all the time.

Whoa you all!! Foul play. She lives in Phoenix so going to LV is nothing. Even flying it's about $100. She's going to Cancun in the fall, when her now 18 month old will be 2, and that's a reasonable trip too for anyone in the south. She's planning a trip to Kauai six months after that. No big deal. She's been to Orlando in the past...and who hasn't. There's nothing wrong here except, I agree, the Nina Syndrome. Where is Nina, by the way? Truly, guys, you've misjudged--her posts add up.

cd...Popeye is my sailor man--I let him think he's captain and I'm first mate. Keeps the peace in our house. I started using the name ages ago to identify myself as "me" to another poster here who knows we sail...that during the days of frequent name changes.

Olive must be related to the Dish to know so much about her. As to those who think I am jealous pleasssse. The woman can't even handle her own kids for crying out loud. What is their to be jealous about. I stand by my statement, the little trophy wife needs parenting classes...

cd...yes I do and he's a keeper. We've got a 30' Bristol we keep in a marina in St. Pete (Gulfport actually but no one knows where that is) and sail around this area. She's a '78 but in "bristol condition", having spent 11 years in dry dock when a previous owner was transferred to HI. The only serious drawback is the amount of wood...I've quickly learned the art of varnishing, an every 10 month job in this sun and last go around, Popeye conveniently had knee surgery the week we had to get started. It was all mine to do except the bit he could do sitting with his leg stretched out in the cockpit. Clever, eh?

Do you miss yours or was that "the second happiest day of your lives". Ours is our salvation...our season is year round, she gets us away from the hotel and is a perfect size for weekend sleep overs.

Myrna, I know no more about her than anyone else could garner by clicking on her name and reading the past posts, as suggested, and as I did.
