Just a few more DC questions
Would like some recommendations on restaurants by our hotel for dinner. The Fairmont Washington is on M and 24th. We like most types of food except seafood.
Any inexpensive breakfast places besides the one Bread and Chocolate? Also, we plan on having dinner one night at Union Station. We'd like a nice sit down restaurant so we can relax after a full day of sightseeing as we have an evening monument tour that night as well. Any suggestions? |
you want to go to furin's for breakfast. it is an authentic and indigenous georgetown coffee shop where actual georgetowners (and the police chief) go for meals. amazing pancakes and waffles. it's not expensive, it's homey and funky, and it's friendly. it's on m street across from the four seasons hotel and not far at all from the fairmont. a pleasant, short walk.

At Union Station, it's B. Smith's -- not quite the same as her NYC place, but very nice and very good

Close to your hotel (21st & M) is David Greggory for a nice dinner.
I'll second B. Smith's rec. at Union Station - a very nice space to boot. http://www.davidgreggory.com http://bsmith.com/dine/bsmiths_dc.shtml |
There aren't too many places directly near the Fairmont but Georgetown is just 5 blocks away. There is La Madeleine, which has a nice french-bistro type breakfast. Clyde's has a good brunch on Sat's and Sun's. I also like the Mendocino Grill for dinner.

Vidalia at 20th and M. Blackie's House of Beef at 22nd and M.

I liked B. Smith's in Union Station too, not the least for the opulent decor. It might add some interest for you to know that it's located in what was the private reception area where, among other things, Presidents of the U.S. greeted visiting heads of state in the pre-air travel era.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm going to check the sites out now and make some reservations if they take them.

Across the street from Bread and Chocolate on 23rd Street is Federal Market, a small grocery with a deli counter and salad bar. Local office workers and firefighters grab breakfast sandwiches there; you can eat at a couple of small tables outside.
|
That sounds like a good idea. Maybe we'll give it a try. Thanks.
