June in the Keys
 

What is the weather like in the first few weeks of June in the Key..esp Islamorada?
We would like to visit ...but don't want to be steamed out!

There are lots of resources on the internet that will give you the average weather anywhere, any time. You might want to avail yourself of one or more. As for what specifically will be the weather in early June in the Keys, it will vary a bit. Highs will be in the high 80s to low 90s; lows will be in the high 70s to low 80s. June or any other month might seem steamy to you if you are accustomed to a dry climate. I live in Florida and I think June is a very pleasant month. Usually the most uncomfortable month in Florida is August.

Yes, I know about statistics and tables...but human experiences are much more realistic...for example..in some places it rains every afternoon for about 15 minutes and then it dries right up, not interfering with much activity...that's the kind of info I am looking for...thanks again.

sumreknot~ We were in the Keys June 2004. Stayed at Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada one night--beautiful in the high 80s, low 90s during the day. Nice gulf breeze at night. We ate dinner outdoors at Islamorada Fish Co. and were very comfortable.

We stayed three nights in Key West at Southernmost Hotel. Seems like it sprinkled a couple of times during the day, but was gone before you knew it. The temps were in the 90s and it was very warm at night. We actually walked from Southernmost to Mallory Square two of the evenings. Many people would probably croke at the thought, but I enjoy hot weather and don't mind the humidity. You can always stay closer to Mallory Square, if that's what you prefer.

We were in the Keys last June (2005) and it was hot and humid, however we found it to be very bearable due to the nice breeze. It also rained each afternoon but only for a short time and the sun would be out again. It was a nice break from the sun. Most places in the summer are hot and humid so I think you should be just fine! Have fun..it is amazing there!

You say humid like it's a bad thing. Think of it as nature's way to plump up one's wrinkles!

sumreknot, June will be hot and humid, but as others have pointed out, there is almost always a very nice cooling breeze in the Keys, and yes, there are often short but thunderous showers. None of those things have ever stopped us.

My favorite vacation destination is Key West. Having said that, I'd NEVER go in June. In fact, I can barely stand being there in late May. Think HOT and HUMID. If you've ever been to New Orleans in the summer, you'd get the picture.

I went to Florida (Fort Lauderdale) in May 2001 and it was sunshine everyday although in Florida, June is the most rainy month of the year. Even in May it is incredibly hot - 95 was the average high when we traveled to Key Biscayne (off Miami) and the water temps were in the 80s already. I spent most of the time being extremely uncomfortable and having the feeling of "passing out" it was so hot. The only relief was going on a glass bottom boat charter boat off Key Largo. Bring wide brimmed hats with you and an SPF of @ least 50.

I think you get the picture as to what to expect. But I've traveled through the Keys many a time in late May/early June and have found the weather pleasant. It can get really hot and humid. But maybe not. It can, and probably will, rain. But you're in the tropics.
I don't think anyone goes to the Keys expecting temperate weather.

GoTravel is right on the money. The old adage "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" is completely true. 90 degrees in Florida is different from 90 degrees in Arizona. Usually the summer weather pattern calls for a late afternoon thundershower (maybe around 3-4pm). Even if it's heavy, it passes pretty quickly. Of course, technically, June is already hurricane season (it's usually way too early for anything) but in light of last year, it's always a possibility. Also, I'd pack mosquito repellant.

Having said all this, I personally love to go to the Keys in June... it's not heavy tourist season and you can get good accomodations for less. However, I'm a South Florida native and hate when it dips below 65 degrees!

Ah hot and humid that is the very reason we go we want hot...now we could live without humid as we get plenty of that at home. We are set for Key West, Marathon and Ft Lauderdale the last week of June. Hope it is hot but also pray the storms stay far away.

Curt, the thunderstorms are pretty much a given and happen just about every afternoon. You'll be thankful for them, just pull up a bar stool and and watch the lightshow (but stay away from windows and stay indoors, Florida has the highest occurance of people getting struck by lightening).

As for hurricanes, it is a crapshoot.

Go - yes we are familiar with the thunderstorms. We have sat in the bar(s) and watched several of them...quite a show. We are used to that as we live in tornado alley. It is more the hurricanes that I was alluding to. Anyway we love the keys and are looking forward to our next visit.
