july weather in mountains? With teens?

Thinking about highlands/cashiers area in July/August. How is the weather at that time and would teens find anything to do? Thanks,

Hi Millsy. I noticed your post on an old Maine/Boston site - and wondered how your trip went. We're heading there in August with our 2 teens. How was your trip? Where did you stay? I'd appreciate any advice - thanks!

Highlands/Cashiers can get pretty hot in August, but it's not unbearable and there's plenty of streams, rivers and waterfalls to cool off in!

You can have "pop-up" thunderstorms at any time in the mountains. They generally tend to pass quickly, but you never know.

Evenings should be nice and comfy, temperature-wise.

Whether or not the teens can find anything to do just depends on the teens.

Highlands/Cashiers is above 4000ft so it will feel great compared to anywhere in SC or GA. It can be cool in evenings. Things to do for teens:
-waterfall - PLEASE be careful, every year we have fatalities, always from out-of-towners slipping on slick rocks
-hiking
-horseback riding
-wandering around shops in Highlands
Take a day trip down to Asheville - they'll really like that.

My teen daughter had a blast whitewater rafting at NOC on Nantahala River/Bryson City. Also loved gem mining in Franklin, tubing, etc.
