I see that Joshua Tree just had to close at noon today thanks to the govt shutdown. Hope they can get something agreed upon and everything reopened quickly - and those toilets pumped out, since they are full to overflowing now. :(

I heard that the road hence entry to the park is not going to close, but all of the visitor facilities will, including campgrounds (although there is some disagreement about whether those already there have to move), plus toilets will be padlocked.
You may not be aware that Joshua Tree NP is not very far from populated areas including 29 Palms, the town of Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley and the Coachella Valley. The towns do have facilities but be prepared to buy something if you want to use them. There is also a gas station and restaurant at Chiriaco Summit, which is near the Cottonwood Springs entrance. |
Thanks everyone. We are staying at the 29 palms inn for 2 nights. It’s just 2 of us,my husband and myself. Is the zoo more of a kid thing to do?

Hopefully by Jan 7 our govt can get their act together. And hopefully people will stop abusing the park!!! I just don’t get why people would go to see natural beauty and then disrespect it. Very disappointing.

The Living Desert (is that the "zoo" you're referring to?) is great for all ages.
