JOHNS HOPKINS/BALTIMORE
Hi, I'll be working on an interim basis at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for at least six months. Knowing Baltimore is on the east coast its bound to have historical sights of interest, what would those be?
I also would be interested in where in the city a person might find nice interim lodging. I'll definitely rent an apt. or house for that length of time and dont want to be too terribly far from the hospital.
Any info is helpful, thanks!

When I was there I really liked Fells Pt. it reminded me of here (New Orleans) very historic, lots of young people seem to live there. I "think" its near the hospital too, I'd almost bet its all of a few miles if that?
I didn't see anything historic except for real estate and Fort McHenry. I believe they now have a civil war museum near the ball park, but I cant swear to it.

You can find several days worth of things to do at the Baltimore Harbor.
There is a submarine to explore, an aquarium, water taxi's, a historical ship to tour, music to entertain you on the walkways, an ESPN Zone to have lunch and catch a game, a lighthouse to climb up.... You'll have lots to learn about

One thing about old East Coast cities is that some of what's best to see are just the old, pretty neighborhoods. You'll figure that out as you drive around the city.
Don't miss the art museum, though. It is often overlooked by those more impressed by Boston, NY and Washington, but it is quite good and in a lovely setting.

As far as looking for a rental apt, you would probably NOT want to consider the immediate vicinity of the hospital (say within 2-3 blocks), but would prefer one of the nearby neighnorhoods of Fells Point, Canton or the area around Patterson Park , which is on the rise. There are also some interesting new apt. developments in central downtown Baltimore, closer to Harborplace. Last but not least would be Federal Hill, which is very historical but a bit further from the hospital. I know that the hospital has services to assist you in finding a suitable location.

Thanks everyone! Yes, Edye, they do have such services if they'd answer the phone! Since I'm an independent contractor I'm pretty much on my own.
I've gotten lots of info on a place called HarborView and Harbor Court; both have interim rentals and furnished.
They look great, not too far from the hospital, but they're modern and I'm thinking I may actually rent a house, but it would have to be funished. Federal Hill seems to have more furnished rentals than Fells Pt but both areas are of interest. Columbia kept coming up in my search, but I'd rather be closer than that. Thanks again

While you're there, take an afternoon or a day in old Ellicott City (newer Ellicott City is just an extension of Columbia, although a tad closer, full of cookie-cutter pretend-palazzos) -- restored old railroad town w/antique stores and one or two really good restaurants.
