jogging in san francisco

Where is a good place to jog in San Francisco? My girlfriend is training for a marathon and needs to run 5 miles a day while we are on vacation in San Francisco. We are staying at the Hotel Milano just south of Union Square. I read in other posts that the embarcadero is the place to go. Are there any relatively flat options closer to Union Square?

The Embarcadero isn't very far from Union Square, and if she's looking for flat, it is definitely the place to go. There's not a whole lot of flat in SF :) I'm not a runner though, so maybe someone who is will have another opinion...

Embarcadero is the closest. Other options would be to run on the sidewalks bumping into walking tourists, or taking buses/driving elsewhere.

Or the Marina Green, but that's a long way to go. The Embarcadero is used regularly, by runners and strollers, plus she can actually jog from the hotel to the Embarcadero, and just keep going.

"Are there any relatively flat options closer to Union Square?" Nope - first of all, the Embarcadero is relatively close to Union Square. An easy walk for my out-of-shape self, so if she is marathon training she won't have any trouble. And second - it is the only flat or semi-flat area of the city anywhere near that part of town.
